Go to a Autozone/Advanced auto or your local Ford Dealership and they
will run the code for you and see what is code is in your module and see
what the problem/s are.

po402 excessive egr flow detected. easy it's the dpfe sensor. your car maybe covered under the recall for it.

OK no car info in your sig, post or profile.. that makes it easy too figure out if your covered under the recall or not

if you want tech help post info.

BTW i am 560 percent sure it's the dpfe,we have done so many of them i even know the code by heart, ( and that the less common excessive flow code po401 is the insufficent code)

so if your car is not covered under the recall go buy a DPFE ( differental pressure feedback (egr) sensor)

and don't let some jackass tell you to buy a egr, because it wont fix it.

buy the part at a ford dealer... not autozone, they will get confused by the DPFE and not know what too do. all they know is 02 sensor and tps and they are always wrong.

one last thing.. when replacing the dpfe ( if not covered do it your self) make sure you plug the fat hose into the fat nipple and the skinny hose on the skinny nipple..

don't laugh i have seen a lot of "techs" who must have flunked kindergarden, have come backs because of this. if you do reverse the hoses the CEL will come back on.

Hey Mike it wasn't an excessive egr flow detected code. BTW it is a 97 GT.

Gus, I say you just clear it and see if it comes back on. If not then it isn't a problem. If so then I would ask around more or call ford.

I have to agree with Mike on this one. I've had to replace the DPFE sensor on my Mazda B4000 pickup. My Mazda is actually a Ford Ranger. The sensor get corroded from moisture from the exhaust gases and won't detect egr flow. Look's pretty easy to change out. It cost around 70 bucks. Pearl02.

the code is still stored. it will take 40 complete warm up cycles for the code to dissapear. you will have to address the problem when it comes time for an inspection.

see.. the DPFE has been a problem for years. on a 97 they had the more reliable metal DPFE. so go get me the code and i will walk you through the diag if you want.
