I'm hoping someone here can help me solve a little mystery regarding some seats I picked up this weekend at the junkyard..

These came out of an egg crate nosed Mustang GT, V8, 4 speed, hatchback. Motor had finned alum covers and a twin snorkel air cleaner housing. I'm pretty sure it was an 80 - 82 model.

The mystery is this.. The seats have "pace car" fabric, but the head rests and shape of the seats is not right to be pace car seats.

1981 and 1982 Mustang brochures show optional Recoaro seats with this fabric, but not with the segmented back and seat bottom sections.. they are smooth like pace car seats. The brochures also do not show these deeper side bolsters.

Can any of you tell me the story on these seats? I can't find anything like them searching Google etc. I can find the fabric from 79 - 82 and I can find the dual post webbed headrests, but nowhere can I find the segmented seat backs and bottoms. (someone on TurboFord thinks they came from an early 80's "Rally Edition" but I've never heard of that and neither has Google)

Thanks~

The seats I found:

and I don't know if it will help narrow it down, but here's the console from the car I got the seats from.

..and finally, here are some pictures i found to show the seat differences:

1980 Mustang brochure:

(Smooth unsegmented seats, correct fabric, no deep bolsters)

1984 Brochure:

(segmented seats, no pace car fabric, wrong headrests)

Pace car:

(no deep bolsters, not segmented seat back and bottom)

If you have any idea what my seats are I'd really appreciate the info~

Well..

While I was typing that all out, another guy came up with the answer..

They are from a 1982 Mercury Capri~

I put the rear seat on eBay..

I'm going to take the fronts to a local upholstery place to get a quote on repairing the bent drivers seat and recovering them.

They are really, really dirty and the drivers seat bottom is torn up.. I don't think the fabric can be saved..

If it's not outrageous to have them done I will use them in my Tbird by putting them on my power seat bases.

Those are the Recaros that Pacecars and early Cobras had. Also some Capri models but i'm not sure which ones (basically Cobra equivelants).
