Overheating a street tire will actually DECREASE it's ability to grip. All you need to do is drive around the water and do a quick clean-off burn out to get the loose gravel and dirt off.
actually a nice little burnout WILL help a street tire hook better. A 2nd gear burnout is a little overkill. I do a first gear bo for about 5-8secs and that seems to work perfect. If you are just turning your tires over for a split second, be prepared for some 2.2 60's unless your track is the *****

I have first hand experience on this. DO NOT burn out on your street tires, it brings out all the nasty slick $ht, just spin them enough to knock the crap off of them.

everyone i've talked to has said doing a small burnout on street tires helps  it seemed to help me

what tires are on your car jackie? Got to be something better than the stock Gatorbacks...
I know a few guys with stock gatorbacks that have pulled 1.9s(justsomeguy is one). I have pulled 1.9s on sumitomos and michelin pilots. I havent done it on khumos yet, but tarzan has pulled high 1.8s to low 1.9s on his he said.

You can kiss your brakes goodbye if you do too many burnouts without a linelock kit.

Nothing blows more than flying down the track and hitting the brakes and nobody's home...I saw it at the track a few years ago. A kid did too many burnouts w/o linelock in his 97 GT and ended up in the sand pit at the end of the track.
