what gears should i go with???

Red, whats your RPM at highway cruising speed? Im still trying to decide which to go with. My first thought was 4.10s but during the summer I make occasional hour plus drives up north to go the beach and the Fun Ford Weekend at Epping, NH. Kinda leaning toward 3.73s now.

i have a 95 mustang gt with a lot of bolt ons its an automatic so witch gears should i go with????:D

Depends on what your goal is going to be. If you're only doing simple bolt-ons with stock HCI (or ported stock heads/intake like me), the 3.73 is the best choice. If you're going for an aftermarket HCI, the powerband will be shifted to higher rpm so the 4.10 would be a better choice along with a higher rpm stall torque converter.

At 65 mph I am turning 2300 rpm's, I like the 3.73's because as previously mentioned my car see's highway time.

I would go 4:10's with an automatic, 3.73's manual for a mostly bolt-on stang. I think you will be disapointed if you go with the 3.73's. If you don't do a lot of highway driving, I don't think your gas milleage will be that much worse with the 4:10's. Maybe 1-2mpg difference at the most.

I always get pulled in on these gear threads :rlaugh:
and
I have seen some changes over the years :)

Just a couple of years ago ... the big debate was over 355's or 373's

Hey ... Peeps are learning and old myths are slowly dying

Me ... I would have been more happy with 410's :nice:
but
Consider these things about my application ;)

My car is a weekend toy only
The power band has been extended
It has a stick trans

Something you might want to try is driving on the highway with the OD turned off. It tachs way above what it would with 4.10's. (About 400-500 or so rpm's more.) I have found that even with that many rpms, it isn't objectionable as far as noise levels and stuff are concerned. I think it would be like a 4.56 gear...I think.

Just a thought.

:rlaugh: 456's :rlaugh:

My ratio of choice :Word:

With my top loader 4 speed
and
9" rear end

When I was a kid

With only a 1 to 1 final ratio and blown out Glass Packs .....
Two things always happened :rlaugh:

1) It screamed goin down the highway
2) It attracted every Cop in town

Sometimes ... You guys send me down memory lane :nice:
