what gears to go with

I thought I had 3.73s but I think someone put new 4.10s in my 3.73 box b/c I'm out of 4th at 110, which is way too steep a gear for a h/c/i fox. I've got 500ish rpm left when I go through the traps in 4th, which when the bottle gets used my 1/4 days are done until i can regear the car. 3.55s or 3.73s imo.

IMHO I wouldn't even consider 3.55's unless you are concerned with saving 1/2 mpg over 3.73's or have a wild supercharger setup. (not to hurt anyone's feelings just an opinion). I think you will be disappointed if you get them. Like someone else said, the difference in rpm on the highway is not that much different and the mpg is not going to change more than 1-3 mpg if you go with 3.73's or 4.10's. I would make the descision based on if it's a mostly track car (4.10's) or mostly street car (3.73's). I almost went with 3.55's and the guys at CJ Pony Parts strongly encouraged me to go with at least 3.73's, so I did.

I would have kept the 3.73s.

You would be surprised how annoying that extra 300 rpm is over a long distance.

Pull out in first gear at 2400 rpm, then put it at 2700 rpm. See what happens...

I am not to sure engines love to be "braked."

Rule of thumb for stock cammed 5.0's;

3.55's for 5 spd's
3.73's for AOD

410's are better for the around town fun factor but will actually make it slower in the 1/4 mile.

For once we agree on something. Unless you run a decent sized slick and you can shift at least at 6k (assuming your engine even makes power up to 6k) then it really is a waste of time. That's coming from a 4.10 user.

However, if you make 400hp and you're gonna run a 28'' tall slick and shift at 6500, then maybe 4.10s are for you.
