I have a Stock mustang with an AOD, this car will not be on any interstate where high speed is needed. So what gear would work best for street/strip driving? I think 4.10 would be perfect but my dad says thats way to much.

i would go with 410 if you are not worried about long trips or top speeds.

4.10's are perfect for an AOD. I'd even consider 4.30's if your never ever on the highway and want a bit more gear.

I just recently had 3.73's installed and I'm really glad I didn't go 4.10. 3.73's seem to keep the car in the middle of the powerband at normal cruising speeds and launch really well. If I had 4.10's traction would be a major issue even on dry pavement when using any throttle at all.

I think with an AOD, 4.10's is the only way to go, regardless of gas mileage and top speed. Gas mileage will barely suffer, and top speed won't suffer at all.

3.73s or 3.90s for a 5-speed.

If it's a stock 5.0, then I'd recommend 3.73's. If you're not going to be revving it past 6,000 r.p.m's, then I think that the 4.10's-4.30's may be too much.

4.10's here, I dont hit the hiway often, but when I do, it still doesnt matter. Best change Ive made so far. Everytime this question is asked. The 4.10 or 3.73 debate starts. Based on what you said about little hiway driving. 4.10's definately.

4.10's. Your car won't be stock forever, right? 4.10's and be done.

But when he adds power he will have to much gear and have major traction issues, right? I think 4.10s for stock and 3.73 for modded auto/T5

I respectfully disagree. Assuming he goes for a more agressive cam, he will need more gear. You can't make just one mod and expect to get good ET's. You get proper chassis mods, suspension mods, and good tires. Then he will have no traction problems if he adds more power. 4.10's.

Sorry its took me so long to respond but yes I plan on doing a 347 setup. But what I hate is that when I pull out in the road and stomp the gas my freakin tires want spin!
So do you think the 4.10s would help me with that? I sure dont like it when a little 4 cylinder can break his tires loose and then my 5.0 want.

I agree,,if your keeping it stock,373's are your perfect gear.I just put 410's in my aod ( stock motor ) and its 2 tenths slower then my 373's.

4.10's are the way to go maybe even 4.30's youcan always stepup to 28" tires when you build to much power rpm wise.

Do you want to go fast in a straight line or do you want to be able to fly around corners? You can't have it both ways. If you want to launch hard, you have to do some chassis and suspension mods. You also need sticky rear tires. Going fast aint cheap!

go 3.73's, 4.10 is way too much for anything....it is really a big step from the 373's...everyone has their opinion.

from what i have gathered... 3.73's are more of an all-around gear. I'll keep tabs on this thread as i wanna get 3.73's soon.

not true at all, u can have 4.10's and keep it smooth, im not speaking from experience or anything, but the way your making it seem is if u touch the gas your going to spin out, u can keep 4.10's under control, its just there alot crazier and easy to spin tires, i would go with 4.10's im considering putting 4.10's on my car i have a 5-speed tho, 3.73's seem like there for ******* to me and 4.10 are the ****nit, lol thats just how i see it but its really an opinion on which u like more, u will get so many different answers askin this question the best thing to do is find someone that has them and test drive, if not then just choose out of a hat, lol your going to have to make up your mind some how if u cant test it out, but my dad thinks getting gears does nothing either but hes not very into stangs and stuff and dosent really no, good luck(4.10'S !!!!!!)

i did a e/t calculator and put in 4.10's for my car (5-speed) with about 215hp and they said it was to much gear and i got like a 14.3 or something but when i did it with the 3.73's i only got like a 14.28 so perf u prob wont be hurting a whole lot if u dont spin alot more
