hey guys i got a 95 gt bbk cai, king cobra clutch kit, magnaflow mufflers, i hear the gears really make a difference.....i do lots of freeway driving, i want something that will get up there quicker, but still hit 150....i hear about 3.55's n 3.73's?? whats the difference?? greatly appreciate your time:SNSign:

i just put in FRPP 4:10 gears and FRPP auburn diff in my car and "yes" i can't really tell the difference!!!
some people say 4:10 is too much for 5.0 but i really like it. if you are mostly driving around the city and do road course alot. i recommend it. 3:73 is great idea at all also. but i went with 4:10 and i don't see no problem. i don't think i will go 3:55's again.

First question with gear choice is: AODE or T-5? If you have an automatic, the dogmatic answer is 4.10, and 3.73 for a stick.

From that, you need to think about what you want to do with your car, and what you might do down the line. If you are thinking of leaving it pretty stock, as you have it now, then go lower (higher numberically) or at least with the suggestion above. But if there is a big power adder (blower, turbo, etc) or HCI in your future, then you might want to lean toward a higher ratio (lower numerically). For most guys who street drive their 5.0, the gear ratios to consider range from 3.55, 3.73, 3.90, 4.10 and 4.30.

Highway cruizing is essentially unaffected by going up or down a notch in ratios. WOT at highway speeds is likewise unaffected. WOT at illegal speeds will be affected by going with a lower gear as you will max out 4th sooner (5th is not an acceleration gear). But, of course, you are not driving that fast on public roads, right?

All that said, WTF are you doing driving 150 in a 10+ year old car??? Keep it safe dude.

well...i live in L.A so i can't do 150 even if i wanted to all i do is between 110-120 max on the 101 free way at 3 in the morning when i get off from work and i do that everynight i might add...my car is original california car so it has never seen snow or corrosion. i do routine check on my car for leaks and wear-out parts and replace them before it starts to give problems.

if you are doing 150 on a freeway. you have to pay close attention to your suspension.
just like GRGT1994 said: it's 10 years old car. you have to keep it safe.

especially if your car is stock including suspension. i would't wanna do 150 at all. i have seen bad things happen to mustangs even going 110 and starts to fish tail...
up-grade your suspension before doing 150. and get really sticky tires all around if i were you.

i would up-grade suspension first before i spend all my money on power-adders
just a thought :)

If its an automatic, go with 4.10's. If your a manual, then go with 3.73's. I have 3.73's and I'm glad their in there over 4.10's. My buddy has 4.10's in his '95 GT T5 and there is little room in each gear and little top end. Accelerates like a bat outta hell though.

I am at 3.90's and wouldn't go higher personally. Every little bit adds up..so the guys that say the difference between 3.55->3.73 130rpm and 3.73-4.10 is only 130RPM, .. it DOES all add up and make a difference in the driving experience.

im still stuck wich ones...t5:shrug:
If you are still stuck, get the 3.73's. IMHO, 3.55's will leave you wishing you went with more gear, 4.10's make 1st gear just a little silly (I had 4.10's so I'm speaking from experience - you will be shifting into second before your rear tires roll across the stop line), and 3.90's are not FRPP (so the fit is not as much of a sure thing). PLEASE notice I began that sentence "in my humble opinion." And like a-holes, everyone's got one.

OK, here is how I chose my 3.73's that I now wish were 4.10's...

I know i drive 80-85 on the highway and I didn't want to be revving higher than 3grand.... that gave me a 3.73 gear...

Oh, and the other thing.... Going from a 2.73 to a 3.73 is worth every penny... This is coming from someone who had so many problems it ended up costing almost $700.....

If you are unsure go 3.73... in all honesty...

Time for a reality check here

In your original post you stated you wanna do 150mph

With 373's & 245 45 17 tires that would put you at 5K rpm

You are gonna have to have a good amount push power to overcome the wind resistance at that speed

AND

If you are stock or just got a few bolt-ons ... at 5K ... you are already out of steam anyway

I had 3.73's and they SUCKED with my combo. I upgraded to 4.30's when I built up my rear and LOVE them. Exactly what my combo needs. They are great on the highway!

meansn95, I would go 4.10's since your car is heavy, the extra gear will help it get up and go.
