what happen

The way most posts seem to be going over the last 3-4 months, I think dumping all of it and starting over was probably a blessing in disguise. There's so much bickering in the threads I've pretty much stopped following things anyway.

shttygtstng - They're still diagnosing the problem, but it would appear that the server took a big dump due to not being able to interpret posts with missing punctuation, missing capitalization, mis-worded statements/questions and mis-spelled words. ;)

 :rlaugh:

I for one am also hopeful the crash disuaded a bunch of the people who post just to 'up their post counts'. Get tired of reading a lot of the aimless, stupid crud that seems to have been filling a lot of tech posts lately. Should get rid of the post counts altogether IMO, although I know how unpopular that would be.

I for one am not going to rip on the guys who run the site. If they back it up every few months, thats their business. I appreciate the site being here, and them running it, how they choose to run it is up to them.

As far as losing posts, yes it sucks, but most of them were about pictures of cars, and exhaust posts, things that will all be covered again. Not the end of the world...

And for those whining about losing posts, its not how big your post coun is, its how you use it (Im sorry, that just had to be said). Now Ill take my free post on here and just live with what happens!

I agree, a lot of people post questions that have been asked a million times, contradict things they have said in other posts, and then keep 'bumping' the thread even though no one is answering. Sorry, thats just a pet peeve of mine i've wanted to get off my chest.

Yep, it sucks big time. The server crashed and the admins only thought to back up the database every few months. They should really make it a weekly habit. Either way, I was up to 320+ posts.. now I look like a noob again. My sig is all messed up and I'm just too lazy to go back and fix everything. I actually managed to do my Enviromental Systems lab because I was too mad at stangnet to waste time on it tonight. lol. Anyways, I really hope stangnet learned its lesson and they will take better precaution in making backups of the database more often than they had been. 7000+ members lost, lots of threads, lost of posts.. all gone.. buh bye.

I would say the Admins are noobs, now mine Sig looks like crap and I look like a moron. I work for a computer company for a living, and this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of! :notnice:

I wouldn't call it ripping, more like constructive criticism. My systems at work are backed up every night. Its not hard to do, just have to set it up.

I agree about the repetitive posting but if its a noob, i'll give an answer and learn them about the search tool. Now for those who have been around for more than a month or two, they know better... :nonono:

I can honestly say I've bumped my own threads not for posts but trying to get help because I've already searched and the question I was asking had a different twist to it... If that makes sense :nice:

just my .02, Larry :D

Yes, not ripping, advising...I do this for a living, so my $0.02 is "professional" :nice: And yes, daily backups are easy to do as mentioned by a post above.

As for people doing "ttt" posts...it doesn't bother me as long as they give it a day for a response...sometimes their post truly does get lost and there isn't an answer in the archives anywhere to help them out. They just want the advice of non-noobs.

And as for the "can I beat", "what timing", "how much power" questions...maybe we setup a new forum for that? like "5.0 - Mine is Bigger" where everyone can ask those questions and brag about their setups. That way tech truly stays tech and talk stays talk...granted, this thread should be in talk, although I rarely frequent talk - I would rather learn from others in tech.

Anyway, just my $0.02. Stangnet is still better than AllFordMustangs.com or Corral.net (IMO) because of the member base.
