What happened to the hungreymonkey? and others? Old days?

Man I remember when he, SD, clev357, 66blake96, stangboy68, corpse were posting all the time. I posted quite a bit, but not as much as they. Are we just all getting burnt out? A lot of good stuff was lost when they started deleting old posts, too bad they didn't offer someone to archive that stuff.

I don't know why each person leaves...but for me...and I have been here 2 months...you get your questions answered and answer or try to answer stuff you know. But if the postings don't concern you, then you start to lose interest...it is already happening to me at two months. Just a thought maybe they are bored with what is available or they are busy in their personal lives.

Well, I am working on a project, and I'll make an official announcement here soon, but I'm organizing a Drag Race/Car Show on Memorial Day Weekend in the Oklahoma City area. You know about my '65 coupe, but I also have a '63 Fairlane 2 door post that has been a drag car since at least '67. I bought the rolling shell about 10 years ago for $150 with the intention of turning it into a drag only car, that way I could sorta go Trans-Am (now it's turning into G-Machine/Trans-Am, or Trans-Am-o'mod) on the coupe. I found out about the Nostalgia Super Stock class that NSCA and PRO run. Only problem is, you have to have an FE in a Ford. The good thing is that my Fairlane is legal for the class and is one of the lightest body styles allowed. This is a great site, but there's not a lot of knowledgeble people on FE's on here. I was turned on to FordFE.com and have learned a lot about the FE's. To be quite honest, there's a lot about FE's that has been lost to time and what was documented was done very good as far as I can tell. There's a guy that goes by Dave Shoe on the board that is compiling info to write a book on the FE's as there is mucho incorrect info in the books that are available. The aftermarket for the FE's is getting to be like the 5.0 stuff was in the early 90's. There are 4 companies that I know of making blocks, some aluminum, some iron. There are 4 companies (and maybe 5) that are making aluminum heads for them. Scat has released a few cast stroker cranks for about $500 and up, but you can get way more exotic if you wish. Some new Cammer stuff is being made too for the SOHC guys.

We're calling the event, the 2004 FordFE.com Spring Nostalgia Nationals, oh and we're doing this little thing with a car called a Thunderbolt. Apparently it's the 40th anniversary of this car and they're worth something (I mean, they only sold them for $1 apiece, shoot how much can a 40 year old car be worth?). We're having several of the original drivers, engineers, and other important people show up and countless clones. We'll be having a banquet dinner Sunday evening with these guys telling stories about the old days. You might appreciate this as will some of the older fellows, but I doubt too many of the younger generation will be too interested. I'm 36, oops, I just noticed the time, now I'm 37.

This has been taking up a MAJOR amount of my time, but if everything goes well and I don't kill myself, maybe we can plan for a big weekend StangNet Nationals in a year or so. I gotta get this promotions thing down first though.

Hungrymonkey lost in space

Now that you mention it, I miss seeing hungrymonkey on this forum. I got a kick out of his slapstick humor on his posts. I am glad that superDave is still posting, he has answered some questions for others that ended up helping me with my mustang.

As the self-appointed "King of the Classics Board" (see my post count), I can tell you that my interest wains and peaks according to the season and the weather. As others, I have many other interests besides cars. I've been here a lot lately but that is subject to change.

I seek to keep this forum going , often by pulling questions off the bottom of the page. Posters should be acknowledged! This forum functions best as a COMMUNITY of people with a common interest. Posters should also learn to respond to answers offered and THANK those who offer them.

It is no secret that I am "Mr. Stock-as-a-rock" and for that I make no apology. According to :The SuperDave Pledge", I stay out of those dicussions that run contrary, not because I don't have knowledge, but because I am prejudiced to keep the cars stock and original. There is room in the hobby for both sentiments.

I AM opinionated and , from time to, offend with my pointed comments. I don't believe that "squishy" written dialog is oarticularly beneficial. I've also been known to be WRONG and will admitt it. ALL information here is subject to being worth exactly what is COSTS. I'm grateful for what I've learned here and I believe that I should pass it on.

On another note, my recent activity has been benifical to me in my recovery from a stroke about a year ago. At first, I couldn't remember how to even turn on my computer much less than remember how to make it function. I've relearned a great deal by making my brain function once again. I believe there has been a gradual improvement in my spelling and composition skills as well. I have SO many people to thank that it makes me "weepy"!

Finally, "Monkey" and others may haved faded for a multitude of reasons. Some have done so and come back but times do change and people shouldn't be expect to automatically become permanet fixtures here. Think of Mustang knowledge as a journey and not a destination and you'll understand.

To tell you the truth I kind of lost interest in the hobby. A lot has changed about me since a couple years ago, and nowadays it seems like the car is more of a chore than anything. It always needs work, and I can always find something better to do than work on it. I do miss the old days on the forum though, when we all used to pretty much know each other. I learned a lot here and it's a great board, but it's not really relevent to me these days.

VTStang's comment illustrates my point perfectly. People change, interests change, circumstances change....... Change is part of life; in fact it is one of the few constants in human existence As long as the board can draw new posters, what is wrong with change?

In days past, VT and I corresponded here and we even DISAGREED (oh no!. If he has gone in a different direction, I wish him well. While we may have to cultivate newcomers, that is part of our purpose and our duty to the hobby.

I miss HM telling me what a hot chic I am

Does anyone remember when people on this forum had a sense of humor?

I would hang out here more, but now that I am a mod, I am just too damn cool to hang out with all you common folks.

The best thread ever was creatted at 1:00 AM on a Friday night when HM was trying to take over the forum in SD's absence. Those days were the greatest. Now everyone seems to come here to cry and argue. We used to all hang out and BS till the wee morning hours. Life around here was a blast. Everyone seemed to get along with everyone else. We could trash each other and no one would be offended.

I hate to say this, but this forum changed when SD had his stroke. When he went on his extended break/recovery, the quality of this forum seemed to die down.

Perhaps we will see those days again, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

That's right! I remember that now! After failing to seize control of the forum, in a more daring move, the Monkey slipped up into Washington in a bold attempt to take control of Dave's own Stock as a rock Mustang! Dave was forced to call in Tyler and myself to defeat the Hungry one. He almost succeeded too! He actually managed to get into the garage and into the car itself, but was stalled just long enough by Dave's battery disconnect switch for the three of us to catch him red handed!

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing! Frienships formed here has keep me active and interested in the hobby in spite of my health problems. Recently, Realmongo, Tyler's '65, and I went out to breakfast and then parts scrounging. We've met on several occasions and each time it has been great. I have also made friends all over the world, EVEN the GBM!, if only here on Stangnet. This is what keeps me a active here.

We all need to be reminded that the board functions only as well as the participants. That means listening and giving each other recognition even if it only means acknowledging posts about to fall of the page. Those who only TAKE from this forum diminish it. I'm sometimes critical of posters but it is done in an effort to keep the forum going on a productive note. Humor is certainly part of this as several recent examples illustrate.

Newbies should be welcomed and drawn into the fun. "Falling off the page" is something I've tried to stop but I'm not always here. Let's reach out and show some common courtesy.

BTW, Realmongo FINALLY scored his RF fender. How he has to have it shipped across the country!

blake has been posting on DFWstangs a lot... he still has his 66 but I never hear about him working on it or anything. I see him posting on there a lot. I post on dfwstangs a lot too. Im here from time to time, but the 69 hasnt had anything done in a long long time. I lost interest for a while due to the fact it was apart for so long, but Im getting back into it... to sell it The good ole grande is going bye bye soon. Im finishing the floorpans, por 15 the intereior, shave the engine bay, drop in the new wiring harness and efi 302 and its going bye bye.

BUT...with all hopes, my buddy and I are going to try and get a small scale side business going by rebuilding old cars. Hope to 'moderize' them by putting fuel injected motors and doing small tid bits of custom work. Gotta sell the 69 to make some cash for our first real project.

As someone said earlier. I have recently resurfaced. I went through a job change and completly lost all time to fart arounnd on here. I took a 3month break and had the time to come here. That's why you see me now. I will be going back into hiding again shortly. I will be working on the car though now so you will see me from time to time. I didn't touch the stang for 1.5 years while I owned the torino. As SD said, things change. I will say if anyone of the old guys needed a favor, and contacted me I'd still be glad to help in a sec. Sometimes I wish it was like it was, but that would mean going back in my life and it's only gotten better since then. On that though I'll deal with less stangnet.

I'm sure things will pick up from time to time. I remember this same dicussion taking place when I first joined. It was about a whole differnt group of guys. The only ones I really remember was tooncis, and 2wheelracer.
