what happens when TPS is disconnected?

hey, i need a little help, my friend has an 87 GT (mass air) and he has had an idle problem lately..the tps (new) has been making the car rev up after u start it..example: start-1000 then 15, 2000, 25, 3000, 4000...etc, and u have to turn it off....sooo he just took the whole thing off..and says it runs good and even good at WOT so he says. what does this do to the computer, etc when its disconnected? thanks for any help

you are losing horsepower without it because the tps uses throttle position and chaqnges it to voltage to tell the computer if you are at closed throttle,part throttle or wide open throrttle adn the computer in turn makes fuel adjustments and it also controls pulse width of the injectors by communicating tho the computer because of the personally for how cheap you can get a new tps i would replace it when you put the new tps on you should set the idle or closed throttle voltage to about .7 to .9 volts just my $.02

Something else is probably amiss. Have you pulled the diagnostic codes on the car? The computer likely has error codes stored that will give you some clues as to what might be wrong. I wouldn't just start changing parts until I knew. And you should have a functioning tps sensor. While it may seem to drive ok, removing the tps sensor isn't a viable long term solution to whatever the problem is.
