What happens when your fuel pump fails during a WOT run?

I'm doing an FTI combo on my 93 Lx in a few weeks...(cam, AFR 165 etcs...) with a 75mm Pro-M and 30lb injectors with Kirban AFPR with the stock (slightly whining) fuel pump ...and I will be doing some WOT runs at the track and while "tuning" it...what could happen...how will I know it happened etc...what damage could it cause...

Probably about a month and a half after I plan on replacing the stock one with a 190lph...

she will shutter and buck and cut off then you loose your gate time and have to get a tow home the end. when you say whine do you mean the "prime whine" when you turn the ignition?

mine does that "prime whine" thing all the time..dude I bought the car from says it's an electric pump. everything's cool, right?

The louder your fuel pump whines (whines when you prime it with the key on, and whines when the car is running), the closer it is to ending it's life.

5.0guy - Yes they are supposed to make noise, but once it starts going bad it gets very loud. When i had cherry bombs on my car, i could hear the fuel pump over the dumped cherry bombs, it was about to die!

yup...............nothing to worry about get a after market pump that can take 2khp and hear those mofo's................

So I won't be able to drive the car...but it isn't going to damage the engine?

I'm not talking about the prime noise...I can hear it everynow and then over my headers, offroad h and flows in the interior at idle...sorry for the confusion...

So it will kick and buck like it isn't getting fuel...it is more likely to happen in the upper rpms correct?

yep, they get wheezy in the upper rpms. also, the puter pulls fuel for the rev limiter, as i recall. so if you bump off the limiter, you will get an idea of the feel. i would not do this often - get an ignition box if you are gonna see higher RPM's, and set it up to cut spark first. stock limiter is 6250, i think.

Cutting fuel is not the ideal way to limit RPM, if the pump fails you take a chance of damaging it. I'd replace the pump.....

I'm going to replace the pump but it will be a month and a half or so after I put in the FTI combo...

So the pump will give me warning before it just completely gives up...

Rick probably knows better than me, but it is hit or miss.
sometimes the pump kinda gradually takes a poo, leaving you with starvation at higher RPM's.
but often it just gives up one day and leaves you high and dry (esp. if you are not super tuned-in to the symptoms of it telling you it's on the way out).

Usually high and dry...

I have a Ford Motorsport 190lph pump complete set-up, I think I even have new pig tails and all(quiestest large pump I have ever run or seen) very low miles if money is the issue $75 shipped
