What i need-98 V6 stang v.s. 00 Integra GSR

Ok, here is whats going down. My friend and i have been arguing for that past couple of days about who would win in a race and what it would take to get there. I have a 98 V6 stang which is totally stock (except new 9mm wires which doesent help that mcha right now anyway). He has a 00 Integra GSR With the following mods: catback exaust, 4: 1 headers, jwt racing chip, vtec controller, cold air intake, iridium spark plugs, aluminum flywheel, short shifter, rear strut bar, front stut bar. I bought my car for $6,300 with 35,000 miles on it. He bought his car for $11,700 with all of the mods previously listed minus the plugs. He says that his car would run low 14's and would take a non-modded GT with ease. Is this true??? What would it take for my stang to keep up with him?? T know that my handeling will never be comparitive to his but other that. What would it take. When you answer, please please PLEASE tell me: 1) what mod 2) how much Hp gain should be expected 3) how it helps and finally 4) price. I would like to make my car as fast as hi is without spending more than he has. Also i think that i am better at driving a stick, and i KNOW i am an overall better driver. For all the stang fans out there, lemme know what it would take. Eventally i want to race him and steal his money ( on a track of course ) ,,,, but i want to make sure i can win. I can pretty much get close to free if not free labor so just include the parts price please. I know i asked alot here but i thank you for all your help in advance.

you would need a blower with a big shot of nitrous to keep you in the park...he would hang with a stock 98 gt..

My (and your) 0-60 time stock is around 10 seconds, give or take a mili or so depending on the driver.. Your best modification would be a new car. My 98 handles brilliantly with stock suspension and only Geforce ZR 225/55 (if I remeber the sizing correctly) 16" tires. I've pushed it beyond its limits twice but was able to recover. Regardless, your handling will do you no good in a straight line. In my opinion, a stock OHV V6 in a 32-3300lb. car is just not enough. The only reason imports are quick (besides that v-tec -ivtec w/e bullhockey) are because they are this big | | and weigh nothing. Cheap labor + a bunch of plastic = matchbox. As much as we all slam them for looking/sounding like crap, at least the foreign companies realize the efficiency of the power to weight ratio, along with aggressive ignition and timing. So basically, I am in a sense defending 'rice' but I'm not saying I support it.

Moral of the story: Know your limitations. Swallow your pride. Kick his arse later when you have money to spend on a REAL car.

IF he can drive it he should see mid 14's possibly low 14's?(help me out here integraholic). i knew a kid in HS last year who had a fairly new gsr(not sure what year), 5spd, full exhaust, shifter, intake. and he pulled a best time of 14.8 and hes a decent driver, never driven with him but i had seen him in the 15 sec range a few months before and he could hit 14.8s quite consistently now. your mustang will probably clock mid to low 16s(maybe more if its auto). your gonna need a good bit to beat him but if you have nearly 6 grand to spend(as to keep your price close to his) you should be able to pull it off. gonna need an 8.8 gt rear end and a beefed up tranny, a super/turbocharger for sure, components necessary to run the boost, chip, and a nice tune. youll probably also want true dual exhaust and gears and nice sticky tires. should be able to shut him down pretty well with all that, prices will vary and im not 100% sure thats all within your budget but it should be close.

I am getting a v6 stang vert. im putting all the saleen gear on it to make it look hot for this year.....then next I will find some power to drop under the hood.....blown v8 most likley. the integra gsr is a formidable car when tuned right. not ricer tuned but properly done...no fart cans or anything like that. I know..I used to own one. i am hooked on having a blue saleen kitted stang with polished 18" wheels and light bar. then work on it as time goes by, as long as when im driving down the road, most poeple can't tell the diff between a 281 and my car...I will be happy.

I just love the look of how that whole package is tied together. Call me a poser, or whatever....I dont really care...as long as the car turns heads. later on it will turn good times!

he didn't say beat he said hang. And depending on the driver,(s) it is anybodies race. But your v6 against without a power adder will not stack up. I recently purchased a 2001 v-6 auto, and Supersixmotorsports.com can give you the most bang for your buck with their Powerpack.

Thanks for all the help guys. and i dodny say that i could take him now i said that i wanted to know what i would need. So here is what i am thinking: I will get an Exhaust- magna flow most likely, heades- any suggestions???, a short throw, 8.8 rear end, rimms and tires, suspenshion, chip, and a turbo / supercharger. On that what will be better for me in my situation, A Turbo or a supercharger??? What brand do you prefer?? Thanks Matt

Forget the 8.8". You don't make enough power to need one, even with a blower. Besides, the 8.8" is heavier and requires more power to turn. Install shorter gears in the 7.5" and maybe a TracLok and call it good.

The key to the V6 Mustangs in terms of dropping times is to keep the weight off. If you're going to spend money on suspension stuffs, make some of it turn into tubular components like k-member and a-arms.

Wheels and tires won't do jack for you unless you're going to skinnies and slicks. You don't make enough power, and wider front wheels will only increase rolling resistance.

A blower or turbo is a good move, but pricey, and the stock single-port heads/intake will be a huge limiting factor. Doing a full-on HCI setup and then adding forced induction would be the only real way to go that route. There's always nitrous too, which is much cheaper than a blower and will add just as much power to the wheels.

I was looking around here somemore and saw a blower kit for the 6 that's like 3 g american, and bumps hp to 350 range with intercooler and a nice bump in torque, im going to do that I think. as long as she's pretty quick i dont care if it got a weed eater engine. Im thinkin 350 with the 6 should be plenty for me.....and still be pretty decent on gas. but like I said, as long as it looks the part im happy. I will be beefin up the rear end, suspension with lightweight parts and tranny upgrades too.

I think it would be cool to see a fast 6 around here..everyone has v8's....

No way he could take a stock GT...he is running around 14.7 if driven well with those mods. Stock GTs are good for low 14s

I know it would be unlikly for ya to do, but I was at a car show and some guy took a 97 v-6 and put in a 5.0 with a 4 barrel along with a 347 stroker with a very nice cam. I'd say 5.0 with about 347hp stock should toss that GSR around like it's going out of style. Plus if you get labor for free/ next to nothing do it up. Keep all the v-6 emblems. Little extream but you would show him good.

cheapest way of beating him would be 4.10s, chip, and drag radials. Gears are a good investment, but they are also going to cost ya if you do traveling because of high rpms. Personaly I'm putting in 3:73s and it should drop my car from about a 12.5 to an 11.88 (if I put on drag slicks).
buddy of mine with 5.0 went from 2:73's to 4.10 (with an auto) and that car destorys everything him comes up against now. His motor is stock with an intake and some trany work. Gears also only run about 180 bucks last I checked.

Problem with the idea of a V8 swap is that some states are a lot pickier than others about emissions laws. I know that if someone pulled into a sniffer station here with a carb'd anything that was originally fuel injected, the station manager would laugh you out of the facility. Just ain't gonna happen.

Even if you can do a V8 swap and keep it fuel injected, then you would still have to pass the rollers, which you might be able to do but would be difficult.
