which ones are best?? i was thinkin the Edelbrock Performer II... any others thats better but not costly??? the motor is stock except for headers right now... iam goin to do a CAI, TB, before the Manifold though... is a 70mm TB the best to get probally??

I would either get your lower ported, or find a used Performer (not RPM or RPM 2). It's the only intake I've liked on the stock heads and it will support some serious aftermarket heads too if you plan on upgrading.

Just got my (older) Performer 5.0 on my car and I LOVE IT!!!!! True "seat of the pants" power increase with a mostly stock motor....Upgraded injectors too ( this is a must for drivability issues) 24 pounders

to hell with porting your stock intake. I am not a fan of that. i would either get the cobra, or my pick----the Performer intake.
IMO, the performer is a nice intake that you can use with some more performance mods.

Cobra intake on a budget.

on a mostly stock car porting the stock lower benefits more than purchasing a $500 intake...new or used you are still spending more than you would if you had the lower ported...It's not worth spending all the money on a new intake just to gain 15HP...

I agree, on a stock headed, near stock car, a ported stock lower would be the way to go. I got the performer and really think that I would have been better off getting a TMOSS lower and spending the money elsewhere. Oh well, I have the performer and think maby I'll get the best of both worlds, a TMOSS ported Performer. He said it I would be looking at RPM II like flow.

Yep get the Performer (I have one with heads/cam)...or the Cobra would be fine as mentioned if your on a budget or go with the tmoss ported lower for a bit over $100 bucks I believe.

I think if your planning on going further into the motor like h/c upgrading the "whole" intake would be a good idea.

holy ****nit, did we just agree on something? :p

oh, and the performer is WAY under $500.. probaby in the high 300s by now, or used cobra in the mid 200 range.

you're joking right? a new performer is $499.95...a new Cobra is $399.95 and if you want it polshed than you pay more...used...I got my used Performer for $300.00...I also have a Cobra that I wouldn't sell for less than $275...but than again we can argue all day on how much intakes are used...my point is that a stock ported lower will be more than enough to accomodate the stock heads...and all for under $150...The best intake for the money would have to be an Explorer since it flow as good at the Cobra/GT40 and when ported flows better than TFS or Performer...it all comes down to how deep your pockets are...

I can agree with anybody at anytime...they just have to agree with me :)

The Performer is $500 from summit...

I still say if he is planning on more internal mods go ahead and upgrade the "whole" intake...

Highbredcloud - You got that car running yet? :nice:

Yeah...I got the notch running...and in all honesty...I'm not sure how I feel...I was expecting more low end from AFR combo than my GT-40X combo but it pulls hard from 3000-6000...the car is fast no doubt but so is the GT-40X combo...the only difference one is in a notch...the other in a GT vert...

Back to the topic...if the original poster will upgrade to better heads/cam than sure spend the extra money and get an intake...but if the rest of the mods will come further down the line or never...than its not worth the extra money...the stock ported intake will do just as well...just my thought...

a $500 intake on a stock headed 5.0 is a complete waste of cash, unless you've already done all the other mods, meaning gears, rear control arms, and the usual bolt ons, THEN you do the intake, then heads as money permits. If you haven't done the gears and control arms, you're throwing your money away. You may gain a tenth or two from an intake swap, but a gear and control arm swap is gonna get you closer to a full half second. Those e7's can't flow enough for a lot of intake. I agree with most of the others, in the fact that if you've got to do it, port the stock lower.

are u all talkin about the "performer" or the "performer RPM II" ???? which ever, where's the best place to get it???

also, talkin about gears too, where should i buy them from?? thats my first purchase

Well you could also look at it like doing the usual bolt-ons, gears, control arms?, after the intake because the intake is being restricted by those "stock" parts...it can go either way. I do not think a intake like the Performer/Cobra/Tmoss porting is a waste of cash at all...

The intake will give you a bit more power. The control arms/gears don't...just get you that quicker E.T. Gears are a great mod none the less.

A performer isn't a lot of intake for the stock e7's...that is why were not mentioning the Systemax/RPM II/TFSR/etc...

93stangTN - Summitracing is a great place to order. Shipping is free and they will price match.

They make the Performer, Performer RPM, and Performer RPM II (they are bigger as they go. You will want the regular Performer. The other intakes are better for stroked cars and blown cars.
