What intake will best complete my combo?

Tmoss - I don't see generalization in a 266,AFR's 165 and an RPM11. This is pretty darn specific if you ask me! I did not test his combo - I said I've seen it tested many times! Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords has had many different variations and Westech Dyno as well. Richard Holderner's book dyno sessions shows it clearly!

Well tuned - this package is very stout(400+hp) I've seen a bit less - but usually cleaned up with fuel pressure, timing adjustments!

By the way - I like your set up as well, I was thinking if not AFR's then GT40P's well prepped as you seem to have them. I hear getting good headers is difficult. And 4 degrees advanced seems to help things with the stock cam.

Depending on cam choices - I have seen GT40P's in the elevens! It's a worth while set-up by far!

Anyway, please let me know Tmoss how you do/fare with your combo - it's one I've had my eye on for a bit! That one and the 266......

OK, but did they test those combos with other intakes to see which one was best of the bunch? Would they use a custom ported intake? Propbably not on both counts. Will it work well - probably. Is it the best one for the job? - maybe.

You know what we REALLY need? A magazine that does not have to tip-toe around the issue of stepping on advertisers toes to create worthwhile tech articles and tests. Anybody remeber Cars Illustrated and Tony Defeo and Steve Collison and Neil Van Oppre? No politics in that rag - raw language, fun projects and truthful reporting not bound to just manufacturer items. I miss it to this day.

I carried peak HP without much nosing over at all through 5,500 rpm where the operator stopped it short :( . I like the combo VERY much. I have instant access to mega-torque across the rpm band for what it is. It's almost too much for the 9.8" contact patch tires I run in normal driving. My stock SD cam has valve events VERY close to the baby Crower 15510 cam - just has less lift @ .47X" lift. I'm about done with it as I drive this car a LOT and i want to retain driveability. I also want to stick with Ford parts just cause I'm old school at heart - mod what the factory gives you. F/S blood runs in my viens I guess.

Amen brother :nice: I don't think I would ever see my combo make the mags as a tech or as a dyno run for that exact reason. Alot of people will do like I did. I have shown my dyno sheet before and I believe Tmoss liked it. My torque curve was great. I made 366hp and 393 torque on the wheels with an Explorer intake that was ported. Lets see a mag show an intake test of that.
 
As of right now all that has really been done to it was a gasket match to the AFR's. Tmoss- you port the whole thing through from what Ive seen on your website. As soon as the car is off the road this fall I'm 90% sure that Ill be sending you my lower.
 
Gasket Matching is not worth a whole lot and can actually hurt if certain conditions exist after doing the match. I shape the runner for the best "effective" cross section to increase flow across the rpm band.

I've seen quite a few different tests of the same combo - The GT40, Ported Cobra, Performer RPM and extrude hone stocker are all pretty good!

The extrude hone cobra looses a bit of torque down low, the GT40 surprisingly is pretty strong up to 5500rpm(hp & torque) where it shuts down. Most long runner intakes all share a problem of shuting down anywhere between 5000 - 5500 rpm.

The clear winner is the RPM11. Mind the performer rpm is within 1-2hp and about the same in torque all the way to 5500rpm where it surrenders to the RPM11.

If you have the cam to take you to 6000rpm such as the 266,274,282 the RPM11 helps your power average and works great with these cams. The 266 and 282 did excellent with the RPM11. With the 282 you need to modify your computer as it is still making power at the rev limiter(6250). The 266 seems hard to beat on the street because it makes a lot of torque(fat powerband!) and incinerates tires at will!!! I can't comment on TFS though I have no dynoed combinations with there stuff. Box intakes kill low end torque but seem to work well on larger blocks that can sacrifice torque or when used with superchargers.
 
Like stated above .. the chassis/wheels are holding you back on 12's, as well as a nice port on that GT40.

The RPMII is not going to help him down low at all and the 266 will shut down before it uses any of the top end this intake can supply ... that intake is really made for revvers and strokers.

But, that is ENTIRELY case by case dependent - did you look at the link I posted above? RPMII was down 24lb-ft and 7HP peak numbers and the Explorer had higher TQ/HP through 5,300rpm and then hung it's trace directly on top of the RPMII trace through 6,000 rpm where the dyno stopped. The RPMII was a clear loser on that AFR headed combo no matter how you look at it.
