Finally, after having my rearend looked at many times, the shop said they finally fixed the leak. They said the yolk was warped and they went ahead and replaced it at no cost for parts or labor. They said my pinion shaft is still warped at 1/1000th or 1/2000th of an inch, but may never leak. They said to contact the person who I got the gear from and see if they have any warranty. I want to get it fixed completely so that nothing happens in the future.

What is a yolk? Price?
Is it likely for the gear/pinion shaft to have a warranty?
Is it likely AT ALL to leak with that little of a warp?
Is it likely for the warp to grow over time?

Thanks guys!

The yolk is the piece that connects the shaft to the differential. Its the [= =] pieces that go together sideways..

The parts will likely not be warrantied due to the damage being caused by a warped yolk.

No, it's not likely it will leak. Just check the rearend periodically for signs of moisture at the front-side.

The warp PROBABLY wont get worse, but if you ever feel any strange new vibrations, check it out asap.

If you want do to do a safe fix and forget about it, buy a new ring & pinion set WITH new bearing races and bearings for the pinion. But, it's best to leave it alone if it isnt leaking to start with.
