what is drone???

I am an expert on DRONE. it is that noise between 1800-2500 that HURTS your ears. It sounds good at first but thenactually hurts the ears Varrooommmmmbooombomboomm..ouch! Anyone with NORMAL hearing or...over the age of 22 notices it, lol. To be honest, I measured it...with H-pipe (off road) it ususally measures 93 DB and NOT NOT good for your hearing if you plan on living past the age of 28. Thanks.

Ditto BUT I bet your car sounds KILLER at WOT lol.
Killer to your eardrums.

But yes it is great. I broke a personal record and set of 23 car alarms at school with in 10 minutes. My previous record was 21.

Today someone rode in my car for the first time and they said "Man your neighbors must hate you."

My response: "Man my car is so loud my MOM hates me."

According to Wikipedia, exhaust drone is the negative byproduct of aftermarket exhaust whereby not only is the intended result of an improved and augmented WOT exhaust note achieved, but an undesirable increase in exhaust noise at cruising speeds. All brands tune their cat-backs differently, so maximum drone will fall at different RPMs with each. And O/R mid-pipes will increase the volume of the drone.

OK, so there's no wiki on it. But that's about the definition you'd get if there were one.

IHMO, WOT noise = good, cruise drone = bad.

It usually occurs at 2K rpm give or take a few

When at a cruise, it can be VERY noticable

If you slowly climb up through the rpm range in a high gear you can hear it if you pay attention but you do climb through it rather quickly.

It is a resonance kind of sound

There are different levels of how bad it can be

It can be so bad you get the windows shaking, anything loose in the car like change, a ball point pen on the dash, etc will start to dance around or vibrate wildly at a steady cruise. During this time you can NOT talk to the person in the other seat ... you gotta yell at them.

I know of no adjective that adequately describes how much I hate that sound.

Maybe Loath comes close :rlaugh:

Almost always, when you move away from the oem catback, you are gonna get some degree of the dreaded drone cruise thing.

Wow, that is an excellent definition!! As I was reading it, I thought you had actually found it on-line somehwere from a formal dictionary.
