Swap Headers and the willingness to work in tight spaces. Really not a big deal.

I'm not sure if I have ever seen a 351W in a 65-66 where one header or the other did not contact a shock tower. The fit is tight. You should factor in motor mounts that allow some adjustability so you can center the motor for best header clearance on each side. The Ron Morris and TCP mounts do this, I believe. The other potential issue is hood clearance. Some care has to be taken when choosing an intake manifold and drop-base air filter.

my iron head, hedman headered 351 clears... by no more than 1/8 " on either side. this is with stock, 66 style mounts. if you go to my cardomain page, the last picture down gives an idea of how much room you have to work with.

Cap the headers, fill with sand, bolt to engine on a stand, heat and bend. Worked installing 351-C's in 65's back in 75.

My 351w doesn't touch either shock tower. Granted its only a few paper widths away on one side, but it doesn't touch

ill say it again... with the PROPER headers, and a bit of wiggling of the motor mount as you tighten them down, you can drop a 351 into a 65 with no shock tower issues. the intake, however is another problem.

Seems like it would work. How do you cap the headers?
