I got the V6 simply because of the above, I love my V6 but I couldnt really afford a V8 because of the above factors. Any ways, 210 HP isnt all that slow.....

Simple, because I don't particualrly like the Looks of the Rousch or the Saleen. I prefer the Stock body without all the plastic. Then, I still have the same motor to build and all the same mods available.

THough, with a V6... you still have a 4.0L V6 with limited availability of bolts ons.

Oh, and the Shelby is not out yet, and even though I like it. I like the looks of the Base GT better and I can bolt on a blower cheaper. With that said, the resale would be higher on the Shelby, but I am not sure that it will cover dealer mark up, so I didn't wait.

Insurance for me is $70 a month... full coverage. Gas.. **** I get 23mpg how I drive... except when I am flogging it... which at tha tpoint I don't care what Gas Milage I am getting.

BUt I would vote the same for putting on a fake hood scoop as a fake muffler... Its Ghetto or Ricey.

I say either wait until you have functional duals to put the bumpers on or just dont stick anythign over there for the short term and live with it. Like I said above, dont badge it as a GT and it should be ok.

Reading the never-ending V-6 bashing is always an experience. It helps to identify those who are more likely to have Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider posters on their walls!!

All (read: ALL) Mustangs were designed from the same basic platform. They're made to mod!! If its wrong to mod a V-6 is in such a way that it starts to look or perform like a GT then its equally wrong to mod a GT in a way that makes it look or perform like next years Cobra.

And if the V-6 were such a limited platform why in the Sam Hill is Shelby looking to possibly produce a V-6 Shelby?????? Y'all remember Carroll Shelby, don't ya? He's the guy who both said "Horsepower sells cars but torque wins races" and described the early Mustangs as "Secretaries cars"...

Give the V-6 the credit its due... It's got more potential than some may realize.

Talk about bashing! I ask a simple question and in no way criticize the V6 (which I think is a great car), and V6 owners freak out.

As far as purchasing a Shelby or Saleen, those are in an ENTIRELY different price class. A well-equipped GT is NOT a huge step up in price from a loaded V6, at least with the pricing here in FL. For a responsible person, gas prices (GT=87 octane, too, and the biggest factor w/ these cars is how hard you drive them) and insurance (well, assuming a pretty clean record) are not that much higher, either.

My confusion comes from seeing people buy V6's to save money, and then put thousands of dollars into GT appearance and general performance mods. I'm not bashing it, I'm just asking, why not start with a GT to begin with? The bang-for-the-buck factor on GT's is hard to beat and so many performance mods are already available.

By the way, it's your car, so do whatever you want to it! You don't HAVE to justify what you do to anyone. But if you feel like having a mature discussion about it, great. Did you do it to save money? Because there's a load of modified GT's and you're more interested in exploring the performance possibilities of the V6? Because you found that the V6's, overall, do offer big savings over a GT?

Ok... take someone like myself as an example. I intentionally purchased a base model V-6 and spent approximately 18k before tax/licensing. Since then I've spent approximately 3k on mod's... I'm really happy with what I've created. It's unique and 100% mine!! Since my price tag is still thousands of dollars LESS than a comparably equipped GT... I'd say I've done good!!!

I suspect after SEMA we're gonna see LOTS of aftermarket interest in the V-6. Why? Because this platform has great potential and market appeal.

The color isn't exactly what I had hoped for. I replaced the shifter boot and put a leather cover on the armrest. All three together helped improve the look.

Ok Kyle I retract the dumbass and apolagize, I was pissed.

I bought the V6 because the huge dealer markups turned me off on the GT.

I know that Im going to spend 3-6k on mods when I buy a new car. Thats the same if the car cost 20k or 33k.

Im serious, when I bought my V6 in March, I couldnt find a GT for 1 cent under 33k anywhere. Im just not spending that much money on a toy. And thats all this car is to me, a toy. I dont need it for transportation. Hell, Ive owned it 8 months and just did my first oil change.

When I bought the Mustang I already had a 03 Focus (2 of them), an 03 Taurus, and a 88 GMC. I tradded one of the Focus's for the Mustang, but I still own 3 cars and 1 truck, and just my wife and I drive them.

As far as the mods making it look more like a GT. Im from the 60s/70s. Mods back then were nice wheels, air shocks, duals, and big 4 barrel carbs. You know how my dad taught me to do tuning? We put a vacume gauge on the base of the carb, adjusted the jets for the highest vacume, and advanced the timing until it started to ping. We kept increasing the jet size until we saw smoke. We would pull a plug and if it was running rich, we backed off a size.

Body kits, hand held tuners, suspension packages, thats all modern magic to me.

Im planning on the GT bumpers because I like the way they look, no front license plate indent, and a rear that looks like duals belong there. Im going to put a procharger on, and thats it, nothing else. I like the clean retro looks of the car, and in my opinion (not knocking anyone else who does different) it doesnt need anything else.

BTW, the 13k I saved by not buying the way overpriced GT, Im spending on a 2 or 3 year old chopper. Ive got my eye on an American Ironhorse like this one.

This conversation started with the question 'which is more ghetto,' referring to a nonfunctional second muffler for appearance, or a dual exhaust bumper with only one exhaust. For GT vs. V6 debating, perhaps we should start a new thread, so those that don't want to listen shouldn't have to.

So back onto topic, I would say that either one is unfavorable. And now that it's getting cool out, smoke coming out of only one exhaust will be rather apparent.

Nothing wrong with building a fake GT in my opinion. I saw a SN95 GT made into a Cobra in MMFF and the guy called it a "Fake Snake" and even had vanity plates FKESNK or something like that. The car looked great and would out run most Cobras. So get yourself down to your local muffler shop and have them install a y-pipe and a muffler and enjoy your fake GT.

Turbo V6 and My $.02

On the V6 Tech forum there is a V6 running in the 11s. 399.7 HP 441.38 Torque. 12 psi and racing fuel, stock motor. This is the same guy who used nitrous to get 12.5 @111 with 9 lbs of boost.

Ruffy has a valid point, but IMHO, going duals does not make a "Fake GT." Duals are not a GT mod. Many import V6s out there smaller than 4.0L have duals. We should have them, the car easily supports them, and by all acounts, runs better with them. Getting mine next year. End of story.

Why not put $1,000s of dollars in performance mods? I hear no good reasons not to. I just keep hearing the same thing: GRUNT, GRUNT, ERR, GIRLY V6. I am not going to defend my decision here. It has been done too many times by too many people. But I will say this: modding any car is a labor of love, effort, time, and patience.

It is much like weightlifting. Not everyone who goes to the gym can be as big as The Rock. Should no one go? Should I say, "Gee, I am only 6' 185lbs! I need to stop going because I will never be a pro!"

No, I will never be the biggest or strongest at my gym, but I sure will be a whole hell of a lot bigger/stronger than if I never went! And I will look good at the beach, too!

If you like it, buy and drive it, if you dont, dont do it... As for what anyone else thinks... F-off... If you ask me, the creation of the post is where this thread went wrong... It didnt need to be asked in the first place as opinions are like a-holes as in everyone's got em and they all dont look alike and some smell worse than others... Just be happy with your decision in that it is your decision... One of these days we wont be able to make it so enjoy it while you can...

I don't know why I let these threads suck me in or why I waste my time reading them, let alone posting to them. Last post and then I am heading back to V6 Tech for the duration.

I have modded the crap out of my V6, and everyday I here the same thing, "is that a GT?".....they know its not a GT but they still ask, like there trying to rub it in or something, I dont care, I am sick of all you GT owners (not all of you) that feel like if you dont have a V8 its not worth a crap, my V6 looks better than 90% of the GT's out there, as far as performance, WOW, you have 90hp more than I do stock, it would not be hard for me and a couple grand later, to have a V6 that can smoke check you in your GT. So when the new Shelby's come out, why mod your GT.

Its like me telling someone with a Ferrari F430 that there car is worthless cause its not as fast as a Ferrari 612.

are we still bashing the V6s?

The only thing I have against the V6 is the sound. No matter how fast or how modded... you will never have the same sound. That is almost as important as HP to me. I would rather have a mid 14sec V8 that a low 13 sec V6. Its not all about speed. Speed is only a simple measure of how much you are willing to spend.
