What is seafoam supposed to do?

It cleans your combustion chamber up.

You can also use it through the gas tank to clean out injectors and lines, aswell in the crankcase (which I wouldnt) to clean out grime and sludge.

today, i just put it in all 3 places and the engine seems to run smoother and get through the revs quicker. but burningrubber, why would you not put it in the crank case?

Id be a little worried it would wash away too much grime, and possibly expose some leaks that were allready there, but had been "stopped" because of buildup essentially holding the seal together.

The other reason, in EXTREME cases (seriously doubt this would be an issue on a well kept engine), if you have bad sludge buildup it can clog the oil pump pickup screen... and well, bye bye engine.

Its just a personal thing for me I guess, there are many people that do that without a problem... they pour it in, drive around for a short period of time, change the oil and alot of nasty oil comes out.

I think for me it worked a little too well. My car has always burned a little oil, but it was probably only like 1/2 qt per 3000 miles. I seafoamed all 3 places and I'm thinking it cleaned up some grime a little too well and opened up a leak that had been sludged shut and now i'm burning about 1.2qts per 3000 miles.

hahahhahaha ive got a story pretty much just like that lol.

I helped a buddy sea foam his civic and it was running slightly better and then a few days later he started getting some rod knock and the motor blew:rlaugh: it must have freed up some of the bird $%!@ that was holding his motor together lol.

I just remember him calling me and saying that he has a loud ticking noise and wanted me to listen to it i heard it and i said dude thats some serious rod knock he didnt believe me i said run some 93 in there for a lil bit and see if it clears up he didnt take my advice ran 87 octane and it blew up a day or so later. Dang civics must be maid to run with some carbon in the motors and we removed that carbon and it blew up.
