What is the CHEAPEST combo that makes decent power

I plan on rebuilding my motor soon and originally I wanted to get a rebuild all stock except to handle a blower. Next I decided this might be a bit too much money for me right now. So now I want to build up a good CHEAP motor and maybe add a poweradder way down the road. What is the best combo for a cheap decent powered motor?

Edit: forgot to mention this is an 85 gt with a holley 4 brl carb.

Thumper/Tmoss hands down is best inexpensive upgrade. Do a search and you will find lots of happy campers & not one complaint.

The GTs are a good head!! Just put the cost of the heads and then , if any, costs to get them in shape for the car ( valve job.. surface .. seals.. ect ect).. When up upgrade to any of the later heads.. E7s or the GTs the increase of power WILL be felt!! Porting the heads... More power... porting the GT40s... More power.. the the aftermarket allum. heads more Pirce..( LOL) !! Change out the Ford alum intake for a Stealth, the small stock carb to a 600 Vac ( list 1850) or the 750 Vac ( list 3310) they will both add good power with out too much cost!! JUST changing the carb and intake will show OVER 35-40 HP!! over the lowrise stock alum intake !! Get the dist "spun in" for max advance in at 1800-2000 rpm and rock!! The 85 will be blowing the tires away and you'll be SOOOooo.... happy to dust the F/I guys!!

Just me....................

What about GT40 irons?

For a budget, i would do some gt40 iron heads. depending on if your keeping the stock cam or not, i would do 1.7 rockers also. you can get used heads/rockers for like $450-500 to your door!
if your gonna NOT keep the stock cam, on a budget, i would go with a FMS b or e cam or a TFS stage 1 camshaft.
i didnt see if you were stick or auto, but i would go with an RPM intake and a 670-700 carb.

Cheap, Reliable, and Powerful. Choose 2. You can not have all 3.

yes you can if you do your homework! and we have to get a definition of his "powerful" also to make this thing work.

Oh sorry, yeah my car is a 5 speed. I had a big plans for my motor rebuild this winter but I just bought some real estate (a cottage). Im only 18 and paying for university now too so thats why I'm asking for some cheap power. Im shooting for 250rwhp and up. Thanks alot guys
