What is the difference between 4cyl and 5.0 front brakes

I have a 92 Notch factory 4 cylinder, I recently installed a 5.0 and 5 speed. Now it's time for new front brakes. Is there any difference between the factory 4 cylinder front disk brakes and 5.0 disk brakes, are the 5.0 brakes bigger? I can get brakes off an 88 GT parts car, is that an upgrade worth doing? Are the spindles and calipers the same?

the spindles are different, not sure about the calipers..
and obviously the rotors are bigger on the 5.0.

allot of people will argue that upgrading to 5.0 brakes is not worth the effort when you can upgrade to a 5 lug from a 94/95.

I haven't done mine yet..but did plan to swap the spindles and entire assembly from a 5.0 donor car. I preferr to keep the 4 lug... You should upgrade in one way or the other, 2.3 stock brakes will difinately be a bad idea with all the extra weight.

i think 4 bangers have a 10 inch disc 5.0l have a 10.5 inch disc. the spindles are different aswell. if you have a 86 5.0L they have the same brakes as the 87-93 4 bangers. sucks for me i have a v-8 car with 4 banger brakes.

If you upgrade to the 5.0 specs, do the spindle upgrade, but get the svo 73mm calipers. Big difference and you won't have to pay anything more to have stronger binders.

did the svo cars have the same diameter disc's as the 87-93 v-8 stangs?

Yes. That is why the SVO disc is a cheap upgrade to 5 lugs without changing anything but the rotors. But you still have the fitment issues with the center cap on 5 lug Ford wheels.

Back to the issue, you will also have to change the struts or get spacers (washers might work) since the V8 strut mounting point is narrower then the 4 cyl mounting point. You will have empty space on the sides if you try to bolt 4 cyl struts to a V8 spindle.
