I removed the trim around my shifter today and found this connector (the gray one).

Is this for Traction Control?

If i were to replace that trim with one that has the connector and button on it, will I effectively have T/C? This sounds ridiculous even to me but its a curiosity of mine. The wiring harness is there. I guess the real question is, are the other provisions there for it(T/C) to work?

no you would not have t/c. all of your wiring harness's have provisions for different accesories, though your car did not come with it. in order to make it work you would have to reformat your anti-lock breaking system, quite possibly changing the computer that controls it(providing you car has anti-lock brakes). i would just leave it and smoke em up(the tires).

Perhaps it's defective!

If that is the case, perhaps the previous owner, if there was one, disconnected the system because it is defective, or he may have broken something in it. Just a thought! Good luck, Tommy.

so youre implying that they must have bought a trim piece w/o the T/C button (probably from a 6 banger or something) and had the T/C turned off somehow?

the trim piece i have now, the plug just clicks into place in that port hole. there is NOTHING for it to connect to (a male end). its just an empty hole which isnt surprising as there is no button on the other side.

I suspect Ford just used the same under-dash harness whether the car has T/C or not...otherwise they wouldn't have made a place for the T/C harness to clip to a bezel that doesn't had a T/C switch

but I'd be shocked if the actual T/C stuff that would be on the other end of the wiring was there

im in the same boat you are, my harness has provisione for the whole list which my car DOES NOT have; p/w, p/dl, cruise, t/c, electric trunk latch, p/seats, fog lights, abs, and god knows what else, yes the car was a base model gt with a v8 and 5spd. do i wish i had all these things? no, because my car is way lighter then those that are fully loaded. i dont have the switchs, mechanisms, actuaters or motors that are required to operate all this. ive estimated my car should be lighter by at least 250lbs.:)

Generally they will run the harneses since they are all made alike and determine the final options later in assembly. My old Expedition had the wiring for fog lights but plugged into the back of the blanks.

thanks CO :nice: thats exactly whats going on here

do you know if there was any current running through that wiring? as in would they have worked if you attached some fogs to them?

i figure my personal situation is a little different being as there is an entire monitoring system involved

i owned a 95 GT and you are way over on your estimate. there MIGHT be a 100 pound difference, but even that would be a high number.

you gotta look at the extra crap man, no window motor (which has a heavier regulater yhen that of a manual window setup), no switchs for the locks, whoch means no wires going through the door, (the plug end stops at the kick panel) no relays for all the power options, no actuater for the trunk lid, no extra wiring for the rear defrost, (a 12in. wire from harness to the glass) no cruise control crap behind the fender which means no extra cables from it to the t/b, and who knows what else. theres a lot more than what you think is involved. i stripped my 89 fox of all his junk and it was a heeping pile of crap in the floor, after i was finished the fox is like my 97gt; just the bare necessitys. so until you've stripped one, dont come at me with that crap.

He's not that far off. There wasn't much difference between the GT and GTS models from 94-95, so there's no need to "come at him with that crap," either. The attitude is unnecessary and counterproductive to the discussion at hand. The GTS models from 94-95 were usually no power accessories like your base model 248a option code car. They might have been 125lbs lighter on a good day.
