What is this part????

I have been noticing oil in my garage floor nice spots ever since i did my pi cam and intake swap. The area around the valve covers looks completely dry so that is out of the question. The only area that i see oil residue is in this little thing that is to the left of the oil filter when looking from the front of the car. There is a plastic yellow cap on it and there is an allen screw behind it.

I Tightened the heck out of this allen screw thinking it could be leaking from here? What purpose does this serve?

The white part with the wire is the Oil pressure sender.

The Alen screw covers an alternate oil port. If you have an external oil pressure gauge, that's a good spot to hook it up.

Consider that the oil coolers will leak form the large O-ring between the two halfs. Also the block to oil filter adapter gasket can leak. Both can be fixed.

IMO, the large O-ring is more likely to be the source of the leak. The Allen bolt is sealed with thread locker. Unless it has been moved, it isn't likely to leak.

Ok so this is the oil pressure switch/sender.

i found a drop of oil on my oil filter and also oil dripping from this switch on the metal part. it looks to me like oil could be coming from the plastic part once you remove the yellow cover, is this even possible?

I thank you for posting ideas of where it could be leakign from but im not too sure of where these o rings are without pics. im a dee dee deeeeee lol

So this is the oil filter adapter gasket, and this could be a possible culprit?

The second culprit could be the oil cooler O-ring? which i cant find for sale anywhere besides LRS and its 20 bucks for an o ring dang it.

is it possible the oil pressure switch could be leaking or no chance?

If the oil pressure sensor is leaking, there should be a "nut" you can put a wrench on to tighten. It is probably hiding behind the "yellow cap". It should not be leaking out of the yellow cap. The sensor is probably not tight in the oil cooler.

As for the o-rings, just like your oil filter comes off, the rest of that stuff will come off too. The o-rings are imbetween all the pieces.

totally understand, however when you remove the yellow cap there is plastic under it and its always doused in oil. i was thinking that maybe its leaking between right there otherwise how on earth did oil get behind this yellow cap.

I have no idea how but its the oil pressure switch that is leaking and not where its threaded but behind the yellow cap. I wiped it down completely, started the car and it started ooozng oil from the front of the switch. I guess the plastic piece is messed up and is leaking. time to go buy a new one and waste all the damn oil i just changed 2 days ago.

Why would you have to waste it? Make sure the container you collect it in is clean and you'll be able to reuse it.

just replaced the switch, not much oil came out actually and i was able to put the new one in with no issues. drove it around for a while jacked the car up and no more leak. pheww

Be careful when you tighten that oil pressure switch, its conical and so is the port, so its possible to crack the housing.

I did not tighten it to extreme amounts, just until it got somewhat snug. Thanks for the heads up though, i have learned my lesson on overtightening things very well lol. I hate snapping **** so i always just snug it up or use a torque wrench to specs.

Consider yourself lucky. The OEM oil cooler on my 96' leaked internally causing oil to get into my coolant system but not one drop into my oil. Ended up having to buy a 99' up non-oil cooled adaptor and new gasket and flush the S**T out of the cooling system.
