While I was tearing apart my engine for a well deserved cleaning, I came apon this, and I have no clue what it is, I was wondering if anyone here could please help me.... It is above the oil filter, and below the powersteering pump.

That sir is the sending unit for the oil pressure gauge. Not to be rude but to say over due for a cleaning is an understatement...looks like you've got a bit of a leak there as well.

Thanks! I thought it was a oil sender.... Just didn't know for what

Edit: I drove the car for two months as a DD right after I purchased it in that condition, with 165K miles on it I have a new truck, so I have time to tear into it now

that other thing is the "spout connector", you would pull out that piece when you want to isolate the distributor from the computer so you can set the base timing...

I'm going to post pics of my engine, its stock but you could eat off it. Check those valve cover gaskets while you're cleaning.

Hmmmm, you're disassembling an engine and you have no clue what some of the parts are. Good luck with that!!

I have been into cars for a long time and even I didn't know what that was of even when I would use it. yes I know he said to set base timing but I didnt pull that when I bumped my timing up a little.

There are some good pictures and such on this and other sites for identifying the stuff on the engine. I wouldn't feel silly about asking. I got a 2.3 Mustang last spring, and come to find out, it has 3 temp senders, one for the gage, one for the puter, and one for the fan controller.

I have a Haynes manual... It's good... But I find typos sometimes in it....

I gotta learn sometime... Why not ask the people who know the most about it
