What kind of Exhaust?

Hi i just wanted to know what kind of catback and midpipe or exhaust system do i have on my 2000 mustang v6. It came with it when i bought it and i know it is not a stock due to the sound it makes.

Almost looks like Glasspacks to me. That is the ugliest dual exhaust modification I have ever seen. But it works it seems. Not really a midpipe, they just welded another pipe onto the existing stock exhaust pipe to dual it out. At least replace the tips with some chrome ones.

A couple hp maybe.Most of the exhaust is still stock.Adding straight through mufflers dont add much.

I would also agree on the quality of that exhaust.It looks like someone just cut a hole in the side of the main pipe and welded another one into it.That weld looks poorly done.It's a wonder that other pipe doesn't scrape against the driveshaft.And yes,those are glasspacks.Not Cherry Bombs though.Cherry's are red but look identical.Could be Magnaflow glasspacks.

Cheapest would be to install some GT Take-offs. Aside from that, if your gonna install an decent exhaust, get something good by saving up some cash.

If you want your V6 to sound good then just get the exaust off of a GT. It will sound good but won't be loud and sound like crap. The GT guys that have upgraded their exhaust might just give it to you.

By the way, what you have there is glass packs and I would never have set my car up like that.

We already established that he has glasspacks a few posts up. I already mentioned getting GT Take-offs. And in the first post, he said the exhaust came like that when he bought the car. Quit trying to be a post whore.:Zip2:

There is no reason for an attitude. I was just giving my opinion. Whats wrong with agreeing with others? I wasn't putting anyone down. So don't call me a post whore!

I just thought If more than one person gave the same advice he might actually take the advice more seriously.

I guess I made a mistake of entering the V6 forum. This will be the last time I voice my opinion in the V6 Forum.

would it be a good idea if i replace the glasspacks with a magnaflow muffler or any other kind of performance muffler and replace the Y midpipe with a H or X?

To the OP. Yes, you could do what you asked and run an H pipe. That would be a good setup, and would sound good on a V6 as well. I would run 2.25 piping for your application. You can put whatever tips you want or keep the ones you have and shine them up.

I kind of thought doing that since it would cost me less than buying a whole new cat back when i can just change the glasspack for a performance one. Is magnaflow the best performance out there or what do you recommend? What is better X or H? I also so a midpipe set up is not an "H" is just two separate pipes like " l l"

In my opinion to set up your exhaust properly you need to get rid of the Y and add an H pipe. Thats why I would just go with the GT take off setup. Most likely it will sound the best on your car anyway. I have seen several V6 Mustangs that had GT exhaust.

Its hard to answer your question about Magnaflow. It is really not necessarily the best performanace muffler. While one brand may make more power than another on a high horsepower engine, the difference is so small on a stock or near stock motor that it really doesn't matter. That is really an opinion on sound preferance. Pleople just like different mufflers. Some only like one brand. I don't have a specific brand that I have to get. I do like the sound of Flowmaster on older V8 cars though. Magnaflow sounds better on the late model 4.6 cars. However the GT take off setup will flow more than adequately for a V6 and give a nice sound.

H vs X pipe. An H pipe balances the exhaust flow and helps with low and mid range power. The X pipe does the same thing and helps more with mid to high rpm range power. Most of everyones driving is low to mid. Also, that will help with get up and go. I also think H pipe sounds better. The X pipe is more raspy.

In the link you provided it shows a picture of the exhaust hanging under the bumper. That is what I would do with a V6 Mustang. I would do what he says in that article. Also, you do not really need an H pipe either, but I would probably put one.

Check with a few salvage yards and see if they will let you purchase the section of exhaust that you need. If you can find it this way make sure you take all the hangers and hardware etc.
