100% locked in, Since june ive done the full 31 spline rear with 4.10s, TKO 600, all in preparation for the 460. I even slapped on some nitrous to hold out until I get my 460. My motor is 100% bone stock minus the nitrous and full exhaust. I didnt bother doing anything with it since I was planning to go big.


What do you guys think about doing a JY 460 block and then having it machined and stuff, just bored out and cleaned up, then doing a fully forged rotating assembly. I dont want to do a stroker.

I want to spray on the motor, so Im trying to find out what the block can take.

If you are spraying it you could build a streetable motor and still have tons of power. On the street you might be much happier with a 5500 rpm torque monster. It wouldn't break as easy.

Stock block can go .100 over and the factory crank and rods are plenty stout. Install bushings for full floated pistons and get new rod bolts.

I would find some dove-c heads and install bigger valves. Big Chevy studs screw right on those heads with frpp guideplates. The small 72cc chambers won't clatter a bit with flat tops and 240+duration @ .050 cam.

Figure your budget realistically because building one right could cost almost as much as a crate motor.

do they even make a bellhousing to mate a tko to a 460?(dont know for sure, i'll stand corrected with evidence) If you can afford a crate motor, i would do that. 460 parts are harder to come by than those for a 302.

SFI bell housing mates TKO 600 and 460.

What exactly is your budget? Ford makes that 514ci w/ 625 hp and 600 ft/lb for 8000.00 Or the 550hp 460 for 6200.00

I talked to my older friends tonight (im 19 and they are 35 and older with 5.0s) and their telling me not to do a big block swap, that a small block nitrous h/c/i motor would be plenty fast.

I like to race and they say the big blocks are bad on the street for racing unless you have a mini tub (traction issues) what do you guys think?

These guys have a lot of experiance and assorted 11-10 sec mustangs, including an 11.2 sec turbo 4 cyl mustang.

Their part right,you WILL have traction issues.But with et streets or properly set up drag radials,youll hook good enouf to get out of the hole then the big block power/torque will pull from there on out.

A buget big block will go mid 11's with the right suspension tires,but then again a h/c/i 302 will too,it just all depend on how much money each would coast.

The only true disadvantage that the big block has is braking/turning.
