what made you decide to keep your mustang?

i was just wondering how you guys keep your cars for sooo long? i mean i guess you could call us all "Car guys" since people are on here because they are interested in learning more about their vehicle. as a "Car guy" myself i keep finding myself wanting to sell my car for something else. i mean i love my car, and mustangs in general, but i will go to a car show and see a 1970 chevy c10 and be like "man i should sell my car and get one of those." i am only 20 and have had 7 cars now. i am currently trying to sell my cj7 to buy another car. Am i the only one? or do you guys go through this too, where there are just so many cool cars out there, and i find it hard to keep something for long before i want something else?

i dont know if any of that made sense, but i am racking my brain as to what i want for my next car and my dad is always getting on my case about dumping money into these cars that i dont keep for more than a year. i definitly see his point, but i am just too into these money pits, that i always want something different.

well... i sold my probe because... it wouldnt take boost and it was as modded as far as possible.. no after market... so i bought a mustang... im keeping the mustang only because with 218k on it... ill never get back what i paid for it...

I bought it 99.99% stock when I had just turned 19. I'm going on 27 now and i've put so much into it that i'd lose WAY too much. I basically did the entire car over these years. New engine, multiple tranny swaps, new rear, h/c/i, suspension, painted the entire engine bay and 80% of the underbody with rust preventative paint.

Consistent modding. When you are constantly doing something to it you always have new things to enjoy. In my case I have dove into a turbo so now its to the point where I would lose boat loads of money if I ever sold it. However, I can't say there are a bunch of other cars I would rather have anyways. The only other thing I want is a crotch rocket. I love my car.

Through working on my car I've grown to love it...It wouldn't be the same if I sold it. I've put so many great (and several crappy) hours into my car - someone else couldn't appreciate that the way I can.

Also, after owning a German car for less than a year, the mustang really is incredibly cheap to mod, and you can turn your car into anything you want (comfortable DD, drag, race) without having to look too far. There's enough of an aftermarket to allow you to differentiate your car, despite the fact there are so many of them. There aren't many other cars that allow you that privilege.

well there is alot of mustangs... but how many nice sn-95's do you see... seriously... i go to the track all the time there may be one other sn-95 there and its usually a 4.6... its always like 32904720893752863 fox bodys though

The Thrill of Driving It. When My Car was out of comission for A month I didn't want to get rid Of it , I wanted to crush it , But I Left it alone for a while to cool down came back and tried fixing it , but no luck , And Had to pay $300 to fix a ground , but it was running great so It was all worth it in the end .

Ive bled alot for my MUSTANG and it bled alot of tranny fluid all over the street for Me.

And this was my second car, first was a 1.8 liter 89 golf gl no power ANYTHING including power steering. And it was heck of a jump 1.8 to 5.0 =

I normally don't keep a car for long, I've had about 14-15 different daily drivers since I've had my Cobra. I don't get bored with the cobra because if I want I can just park it and drive something else...That, and the fact that our aftermarket is so huge it's hard to have one with "everything". Another reason is because It's a Cobra, the last of the pushrod 5.0's, and is sorta special in its own way. I could sell it, but it wouldn't make me rich so there's really no reason to sell it, I may as well hang on to it. There's also the fact that I don't want to sell it and have some other guy driving it around like an ex girlfriend.

well, i sold my 89 coupe for this car which I greatly miss....all an all i think about it granted it's still not the same nor will it be. This car is more confortable, the styling is more up to date, ride is nicer and handles better, 4 wheel disk brakes, 5 lug, plus it's still the 302 which i'm familiar with.....granted this is comparing the cars stock for stock.....I'd love teh add another fox body to the garage one day though.

no matter how hard/bad i try to sell i never can, and i don't know why that is. at my work i get to drive some very badass cars and that makes my car seem like a pile, but for some reason i never get rid of it.

yes i have way to much money in it and it doesn't do some things i wish it could do, but its like i tell my wife: "i don't want a new car, i want my car" my 95 is MY CAR and will always be that way.

For the same reason as a lot of people.........way too much money invested in it, and I just can't ingnore the sunk costs. Also, I don't think I've built up the car to its full potential yet, and I want to see my car get there.

And then there's the fact that this was my first mustang and with all the blood, sweat, and cursing I've put into it, I don't think I'll ever sell it unless my family is starving to death and we really need the money. Then I might consider, lol.

this mustang is the perfect car for my purposes.

i need a fast convertible. i have a family. i can't afford a 60,000 car

if i had no kids, and money was no object, then i'd be driving a viper, or a vette, or an xlr, or an xk8

i have kids, so i need a fast 4 seater convertible. that narrows the field alot. it is either a m3, a camaro, a trans-am, or a mustang.

i can't afford an m3

i don't like the camaro

i actually like the trans am convertible, but they are very few and far between

that leaves the mustang. they are inexpensive. the aftermarket is huge. parts are cheap compared to the others. you can make it as fast or as cool as you want. or both.

the newer mustangs don't have enough aftermarket and parts for them are expensive

sorry, but i don't like the looks of the fox body stangs.

i had a 1970 stang, which was really cool, but the ride quality was poor and the steering is very loose.

so this is the perfect car for my needs.

I was building hot rods during the Muscle Car hey day

I kept at for many years after that all went away

Said that to show I've been around a good bit and had a lot of options
with many different kinds of cars.

Still to this day .......
I prefer Fords
I want them powered by the small block
I've come to understand and love

After Ford went from carbs to fuel injection and controlling things
with a pcm ... one's options with sbf's only got better :Word:

I get to relive my youth with the 5.0 motor
and
I get to use todays technology of pcm management ...

It boggles my mind of all the possibilities

You gotta see it from my perspective ........

In its stock form ... My 95 stops, goes around corners, pumps out
way better tunes, keeps me cool in hot Texas summers, and even
gets over twice the gas mileage any of those old Muscle Cars
or Hot Rods did I had in my younger days.

I keep my 95 Stang cause anything newer is gonna have one of those
over grown motorcycle motors some call ... mod motors

I can only have one toy (Stang) to play with.

I would not relate, or have any interest, what so ever
if my one and only toy ...
Had a mod motor ... no matter what was done to it.

Its not just about the horse power
but
Its how you go about obtaining it

1. There is plenty of aftermarket goodies out there to make my 13 year old stang a better performer in every way than a brand new Mustang GT. Why buy a new mustang, when I can create a better performing one than Ford puts on showroom floors at a lower cost than a brand new one.

2. I paid my car off over 5 years ago, so I'll keep my stang instead of taking on car payments.

3. I rarely ever see a 94/95 302 stang. I love the sound and have gotten nothing but positive feedback about my high mileage 5.0 that is still running perfectly.

4. My wife won't let me sell it. She won't hardly ever drive it, but she knows it is a car I need to have. 13 years later............I still enjoy driving it and entertaining the general public with tailpipe music.

1. its my FIRST car and ive really gotten attached to it. like bimmertech said, its MY car. If i traded it for anything else, half of me would be happy to have a new car. The other half would be kickin myself in the ass everyday for the rest of my life.

2. Im in college = im poor

3. Parts are relatively cheap be it aftermarket/oem. My buddy has a jetta and he gets really jealous when he finds out how inexpensive parts are for us.

4. STANGNET....got a question about ANYTHING? i can expect a helpful response within a few hours. hands down the best forum. ever.

5. Car makes heavinly sounds. I like seeing people turn their heads. I like getting thumbs up. one lady yelled "i love your car!"

First of all I just want to be the first to say a 1970 C10 would be a sweet hot rod. I love these trucks and actually hot rodded a 1969 in high school. I have been looking around for a sweet 67-72 C10 with a 67-68 nose and a nice hot rod project. When I was growing up I was surrounded by them, my father, brother, friends and relatives had them and we had stashes of great condition parts to build more. I grew up on these truck and I have a soft spot in my heart for them. Enough rambling now, sorry guys!
