Anyone ever given this some thought?
How come hardly ANY gearhead is ever satisfied with their cars performance? I know for me and almost everyone I know it is a never ending mission to find SOMETHING to replace/fix/modify on the Mustang.
I was thinking about this tonight while I was beating on the Stang. I tried launching in second gear (yeah, clutch doesnt appreciate that, I am well aware even before I did it) because it never, ever, ever hooks in first gear. Doesnt matter what RPM, just spins and spins and spins.
Doing so resulted in the second most badass burnout (#1 I will probaly never duplicate because it was untouchable, lol). I knew I had to launch the car high in order not to bog and really fry the clutch, and that resulted in an instant burnout, which I never bothered to stop.
Sat there for a second without touching the brakes, smoke a rolling... once the Sumitumo's felt it was time to roll forward I continued the burnout untill the end of 2nd gear, even letting off for the tires to grab (which they didnt). I look in my rearview after my 2-3 shift and see nothing but a massive stream of smoke behind the car...
It just felt bad ass. It made me appreciate the power, and the fact I am fortunate enough to own my dream car.
But immediatly after, I got the urge to increase that power even more. My car has all the bolt ons minus headers and pullies. So, I am screwed there. I cannot justify LT's yet, but Steeda UDP's have been on my list.
In my head, I am dead set on a 5.4 swap. If no one has been fallowing some of the threads on the swaps, they are getting easier and easier to do. Its a direct swap, MINOR fabrication of the exhaust, intake adaptor plates, and thats about all that is a setback. I want the tourqe, not going for all out horsepower.
But it all comes down to this.
I am driven by the fact that I want to feel raw power nailing me back in the seat, showing my taillights to the other fast cars on the road, have tire obliterating abilities, and the feeling of accomplishment and pride that I built my Stang to what it is today.
Its like a primal feeling almost wanting to fight the car to claim dominancy. I drive the car, the car doesnt drive me. But, when you get used to driving the car, there is almost no competition. Thats where stepping it up comes back into play. And thus the cycle repeats itself again and again.
Anyone else look at it like that? And if not what drives you to not stop modding your Stang?
