Anyone ever given this some thought?

How come hardly ANY gearhead is ever satisfied with their cars performance? I know for me and almost everyone I know it is a never ending mission to find SOMETHING to replace/fix/modify on the Mustang.

I was thinking about this tonight while I was beating on the Stang. I tried launching in second gear (yeah, clutch doesnt appreciate that, I am well aware even before I did it) because it never, ever, ever hooks in first gear. Doesnt matter what RPM, just spins and spins and spins.

Doing so resulted in the second most badass burnout (#1 I will probaly never duplicate because it was untouchable, lol). I knew I had to launch the car high in order not to bog and really fry the clutch, and that resulted in an instant burnout, which I never bothered to stop.

Sat there for a second without touching the brakes, smoke a rolling... once the Sumitumo's felt it was time to roll forward I continued the burnout untill the end of 2nd gear, even letting off for the tires to grab (which they didnt). I look in my rearview after my 2-3 shift and see nothing but a massive stream of smoke behind the car...

It just felt bad ass. It made me appreciate the power, and the fact I am fortunate enough to own my dream car.

But immediatly after, I got the urge to increase that power even more. My car has all the bolt ons minus headers and pullies. So, I am screwed there. I cannot justify LT's yet, but Steeda UDP's have been on my list.

In my head, I am dead set on a 5.4 swap. If no one has been fallowing some of the threads on the swaps, they are getting easier and easier to do. Its a direct swap, MINOR fabrication of the exhaust, intake adaptor plates, and thats about all that is a setback. I want the tourqe, not going for all out horsepower.

But it all comes down to this.

I am driven by the fact that I want to feel raw power nailing me back in the seat, showing my taillights to the other fast cars on the road, have tire obliterating abilities, and the feeling of accomplishment and pride that I built my Stang to what it is today.

Its like a primal feeling almost wanting to fight the car to claim dominancy. I drive the car, the car doesnt drive me. But, when you get used to driving the car, there is almost no competition. Thats where stepping it up comes back into play. And thus the cycle repeats itself again and again.

Anyone else look at it like that? And if not what drives you to not stop modding your Stang?

you get used to the power.

my car was fast when i bought it and it was mostly stock, then got slow
it was fast when i had the gears installed, then got slow
it was really fast when the s/c went on
it got faster with the T56 and intercooler.
then it was normal to be able to nail it in 2nd and smoke the tires for over 100 ft and run close to 120 in a 1/4
now i havent driven anything with over 200 rwhp in almost a year so my car SHOULD feel like a race car.

i'm hoping this next round of mods will be the end.............hopefully. i'm done putting money into the car and i'm ready to have kids and buy a new house.

speed is an addiction. there will always be someone faster than you but you always want to be that person who is the fastest. it is a never ending cycle.

it is fun though

seeing the guys face who just spent 15 times the worth of your car get passed getting on the freeway after they first punched it - then slowly creeping in the slow lane so that you'll go away

Fun indeed. And its probaly the best addiction one can have, haha.

I remember when I first got my car the power was unreal to me. I was scared to nail it for a while untill I got used to it. I had never driven a fast car before except my brothers Integra (no, not riced out, and it was fast) but I never even got into the boost with it.

Now the only time it even feels remotly quick is when I am driving my Jeep and then go back to driving the Stang. Its kind of depressing but I know there are remedies for it, lol.

well for one it's our nature to want more. more money, more power (whether political, marital, sexual, vehicular, authoritative: such as over children or siblings), more sex, more alcohol, more belongings.

secondly, speed produces an adrenaline rush, and adrenaline is as powerful as cocaine, as powerful as the endorphins that the brain produces during sexual climax, therefore the more we get, the more we want. its like riding a roller coaster, you can ride it over and over, but you end up craving bigger hills, faster turns, more spirals, more loops, faster ride, steeper drops, and so on.

thirdly, it's a pride/machismo thing/popularity thing...we desire to have the fastest, most powerful mustang, that can take on every and any car we come across on the street, and that we get all the attention for.

i fall right into this. I sold my full bolt on 02 GT last summer and picked up an 04 Cobra. WOW what a difference. I was damn near afraid of the car when i 1st got it. took it very slow easing into it. its my daily drive now, just like my GT used to be....and with 480+ rwhp its sad to say that im getting used to it. By no means does it feel SLOW...but it doesn't feel NEARLY as fast as it used to when i 1st got behind the seat.

You get used to the power and the car, and you crave more.

I am closing in on 500rwhp and am putting down mid 12 second passes at the track (not faster because of street tires) and i am feeling the need for MORE!!!

...but im holding myself back till i work on my driving skill more....but its sad that im craving more!

its an addiction, and a fun addiction at that. hey...you could be addicted to drugs and crack, it could be worse

i know what you mean! when I drove my 91 5.0 for the first time I was like damn this thing is crazy fast, cause it would throw sideways if I got onto it too much.

but man when I picked up my 97 cobra mustang with 48K miles on the clock in May of 2006...I barely touched the gas and that thing would lurch forward, and I was like holy hell...but it took me all of 406 miles on the highway heading home, a few 130 mph sprints against a few 05+ GT's and I was ready for more hp..

The funny thing is our cars are faster then 90% of the cars on the road and we want more power. I won't happy till I put down 400 rwhp.

You could probably install a Kenne Bell twin screw blower some weekend, should provide what you're looking for.

If it wasn't for the cost, that's what I would do.

Hah, I didnt think I was the only one who thought like this.

mixedbreed02gt, you pretty much summed up my thoughts on it.

I would love a KB, but I dont think my engine would right now, lol. That would definatly satisfy my craving for a decent period of time.

You won't be happy with that for long. My buddies think my car is stupid fast. They are not exposed to it like I am. But i'm like, ehh its ok. My brother drove the car for a day, and wondered how I lived with it everyday. I was like its not enough. He didn't understand. You get used to the feelings of power and you want more, its chemistry in the body.

after i get done getting the appearance of my stang done, it'll be forged engine time, and a kb 2.6 blowzilla with 20# of boost...hopefully that will satisfy any and all speed needs for me....im hoping to get around 600 hp at the rear wheels.

This is the same thread ive seen atleast 20 times. Same answer, its called Moditis and there is no cure. It can only be eased buy purchasing new (to you) parts and the busting of knuckles. Giant wings and weird graphics are the advanced stages and its less painful if you just end it when you see the oncoming symptoms. When buying your third power adder its time to make the arangements.
