I'm in the market for a new Mustang (been a few years), and am having a tough time trying to decide what to get. My budget is $28k. I'd love an S197, never had one, and the new 5.0's are beautiful. I've already had an 04 Cobra, and while it was an amazing car, I'd like to try something different. I've been looking at possibly a new '14 5.0, but I've also had my eye on an 06 Saleen with 30k miles. And then there's this '13 California Special that I love.... Not sure where to go, looking for some advice. This will be a daily driver, but I work from home, so maybe 80 miles a month driving. I'm interested to hear what you guys think.

Thanks,
Russ

Why not a '15? $28K is a heck of a down payment. Sure is tough to beat the new car smell.

Unfortunately $28k is financing not cash, and I can't really go more than that. Besides, I'm not totally sold on the '15s yet. But there's still a few '14s on the lot with the new car smell and no miles.

If you have one for sale for $28k, then I'm buying. I can't seem to find one for less than low $30's.

Be on the lookout! Check in Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arizona.

I still kick myself for passing up a deal on a white, blue striped, 2008 with 11,000 miles on it.

Dealership even offered to pull the rally stripe off of it and blend the color for free. Only mod was a smaller blower pulley.

They wanted $26k for it. Just for grins, I'll see if I can find the dealership and PM it to you. Remind me on Sunday if I forget. This place had more Shelbys than I'd ever seen in one place.

IN the meantime, check your in-box. I'm sending you a link.

Yeah I definitely don't mind traveling for what I want. Plus the road trip back is the best! I definitely would've bought that 08 Shelby for $26k, strips or not, with 11k miles!

The timing was perfectly wrong. I was in the midst of moving. All my stuff was in a tractor trailer being relocated by the moving company. I was driving a Ryder truck with my Stang loaded on a trailer and attached to the back. My wife was driving our Suburban and hauling the camper. We didn't even have a house yet. We were on our way to shop for it. LOL

Satan just wanted to tempt me with that car.

One day though. I keep my eyes out and will search in earnest when I'm better able to do something about it.

This. Since the 2013-14 GT500's have come out, you can find some good deals on the "older" ones. Like most things in life, it's all about timing.

I've seen clean boosted 2011+ 5.0s for that price. That's a lot of car. (mine ran 10s with the stock motor and the ProCharger)

I guess it's a toss up between a new(er) 5.0 or an 07-08 GT500 with lower miles. Obviously the GT500 is faster, but this will be a daily driver. Any thoughts on that?

My 2011 5.0 with the stock motor and ProCharger ran 10s (quicker than most bolt on GT500s) and got better gas mileage. (23 city, 31 highway). A 5.0 with a blower will cost the same as an older GT500, but the Shelby has better resale value.

I wouldn't say "obviously". I've seen as many drivers with pre-'10 GT500's run 12's as I have '11-up GT owners. People just can't seem to get those cars out of the hole.

Still though...the GT500 sure is a sexy beast to look at.

Thanks for the help everyone. Finally pulled the trigger on an '07 GT500 last weekend, drove it up from Jacksonville. I'm definitely in love!! This thing is crazy!! TAke a look, let me know what you think. The mods are:
Steeda CAI, Steeda pulley, Steeda lowering springs, Steeda front swaybar, Steeda rear swaybar, Steeda panhard bar, Steeda 3pt frame and torque box brace kit, UCA's, LCA's (with relocation brackets), Steeda tri-ax shifter, Tokico D-Spec kit, Aluminum driveshaft, Bassani 3" long tubes, catted midpipe, and aftcat

Congrats! I sometimes wonder if I should have gone that route. I love my 5.0, but that blower whine and torque is something else!
