I have a 1999 Cobra with 44k on it.

The car has always had 5W-30 oil.

Should I go with a synthetic motor oil or synthetic blend?

Some people say synthetic others don't. Tell me what you think and why. Thanks

I would run a synthetic, and extend the change interval to 5K. All the manufacturers have revised their intervals (except one of the German MFGs who dropped from 24K to 15K).

The synthetics don't break down as badly in the heat as the Dino oils (and the Dino oils are much improved nowadays).

For example, I had a Turbo motor that I changed oil on (synthetic) every 2K miles. Not a mark anywhere (over 150K), and the motor looked brand new... Good filters are key, too - on my Mustang I use the FL820S Motorcraft filter, only (good design).

All it takes is absolutely fanatic maintenance. Hard to do sometimes, but worth it.

I had been using Mobile 1 until recently. I switched to AMSOIL because I found a local place that sells it, and I try to use Wix filters.

+1 for 5w30 Mobil 1

I personally use Mobil 1 or K&N filters.

lol I also use Mobil1 + Motorcraft filter. I used a mobil1 sythetic filter on my last change, it works well but imo nothing tops the motorcraft filter.

I would get the motorcraft filter (MUCH cheaper than the K&N, and same, if not better quality).

Synthetic oil is the way to go. Plus mobil 1 is only $20 for 5 quarts at walmart!

Amsoil is also a quality oil. I run Mobil 1 in the H3 and Amsoil full synthetic in the Mustang.

Another vote for Mobil 1 and motorcraft filter.

Although it seems Napa now carries Royal Purple. If that is true and I can pick up a case, I will try that out.
