There is a 2004 Mach1 sitting in the garage. Thanks for all of the information you guys have given me over the last five days. Final numbers:

I feel like I am giving up a little cash-wise, but I doubt I will regret it. The motor is strong and I am very pleased.

Way to Go Burly!!

Congrats on a great car and a great deal! Have fun, lots of looooooongg straight roads in Lubbock, from what I recall (had to drive to Mule Shoe one day on business..got out of the car next to the stock yard in Mule Shoe. Guy I was meeting with saw me wrinkle up my nose... he sez whats the matter with you boy?? You ain't ever smelled money before??). Should be plenty of fun!

That is indeed the smell of money. The streets here are long, but the city built curves in for seven lanes of 45MPH entertainment. You should see it around here when it snows, nobody slows down It was 70 degrees today with a mild breeze, I take the good with the bad. It looks like I may have timed buying this one just right for the 'warming' season.

Day 2 of the Mach experience was interesting. It's amazing how hard it is to drive SLOW. I took my usual curves into town and found myself going 70MPH in a 35 without trying; going through with what felt like a normal pace. I know I'm gonna get a ticket in this one. I never did in four years with the GT.

IMO, Ford NAILED the exhaust sound, I'm not sure you can improve on it, but I was driving an automatic before which doesn't tend to rev high enough with normal driving to hear. It was sorta sad to see the GT go, but I got over it when I looked over at the Mach

I'm in the process right now of trying to get one. The best price I've been able to get so far is 25,100. I not able to get them to go as low on the price because I'm beating them up on the trade in of my car. When I started we were 2,000 dollars of negative rollover. When I left the dealer today I had no roll over and the 25,100. The cars a 5spd car also.

The dealer didn't mention it to me today, but someone on one of the other boards said that the rebate got reduced down to 2500 from 3-9-04 to 3-31-04 because of better then expected sales. Does anyone know if this is true or not.

I don't know about the rebate, I just offered, and they bit. Where I feel I made the best value is with 3.9% financing. If they are coming in higher than that at Ford Financing, tell them you have secured 3.9% with Capital One. That is what they are advertising on Edmunds.com. Get it! You won't regret it.

According to FORD, it is a 3k rebate.

Congrats on the purchase BurlyStang, I am currently on the hunt for a '03 Blue Mach 5-speed for a friend. Can't wait to find one and drive it.

From one Oxford White Mach 1 owner to another - congratulations, bro!

It's like I tell my friends - the only thing the Mach 1 has in-common with the '02 GT (I traded) is the word, "Mustang" on the rear bumper skirt. That's about it. The differences in power, handling, and ride-quality...not to mention the envious looks from other GT drivers are unbelievable.

I was stopped at a traffic signal the other day when I looked over at a '95 GT with the driver and passenger going:

LOL!!! Only another Mustang-driver would do that, ya know?

The best, so far, has been this one: 1996-97-ish Buick Riviera driven by a dude old-enough to be my dad (bearing in mind that I'm 45 and dad is 74). If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it: Papaw wanted to run 'em! Well, once I composed myself (after LMAO) the light turns green, he hammers it...and I let him go, shaking my head in disbelief. I mean, holy cripes, anyway? Speed-limit was 35mph and, with my luck, it would have been me nailed for doing 90...not Methuselah. Now, how much you want to bet that old f*rt is on the Buick Riviera board, bragging about how he blew the doors off a new Mach 1???

Thx Stones, I don't know if I coulda held back on that Riveria, you woulda caught him at half-throttle I nailed it through a 35 degree right-turn today in second, I'm amazed at how this thing grips in turns, even at WOT. It laid two stripes through the turn, but it never even thought about sliding, or drifting, it just cut the apex. It would be fun to put this one on a road course.

Two weeks into it, it is still an AWESOME ride. I can feel the motor breaking in. It is like it wants to stay in the 3000-4000RPM range. It will go below that, but the motor almost pouts. Sorry if that sounds gay, but my point is this motor LOVES 3000+, even at low throttle. The sound from the motor from 3000-5000; especially at moderate revs, is v10-like. I can't get enough of it

My favorite sound from the motor is when air gets forced into the hood scoop - and the accompanying 'howl' it makes when accelerating? Freaked me out the first time I heard it around 800 miles?

I took it in and let my Ford tech listen to it because, at first, I thought something was wrong. and I also posted a question on the Mach1.org site... These guys had to be thinking: "Friggin' newbies...don't they know a REAL hood scoop is SUPPOSED to do that!"

Well, quite frankly, no. I've never owned anything with a hood scoop that wasn't merely ornamental.

Now that I know this is 'normal' I can't get enough of it...and I'm totally convinced now that driving a Mach 1 is the most fun you can have - with your pants on, that is...

I haven't heard this "howl" yet. I'll pay close attention to it and see if I can hear that. Do you have to be WOT? At what MPH does it start?

"Howl" may not be the most accurate description - it's more like a wind-noise when I accelerate hard (around 5k RPMs) and upshift from 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th.

Believe it or not, I've been really good the last week. I haven't tried listening for it. I've learned how to drive it slow, turning the radio up where I can't hear the exhaust helps

The 2-3 and 3-4 shift knowledge helps, I have an idea of what MPH to start listening for "the howl". Do you have to have the accellerator matted to the floor to hear it, or just driving hard (3/4 throttle or so)?

I feel the need to drive it hard again.

I'm thinking the 'great Mach1 buyout' is over. I've read that the delear incentives ended 3/31/04. That's not to say that someone with the cash and an EYE on one certain Mach sitting in some lot somewhere couldn't be taken cheap. The cue is now, you better buy one new NOW before the UNREAMED ones are gone! I know mine is decently REAMED, I consider it part of the break-in
