What rear brakes come on the '93 Cobra R??

This was posted in a thread in the 4.6L boards

'93 Cobra R: 13x1.1" vented rotors, PBR dual piston 38mm unit from Corvette (interchangeable with Cobra and Bullitt calipers). 10.5" rear vented disc.

'94-95 V6 & GT: 10.8x1.0" front rotors, 66mm single piston calipers. Rear single piston 38mm Varga caliper, 10" solid rotor

'94-98 Cobra, '95 Cobra R: 13.0x1.1" KVH rotors, 38x38mm dual piston PBR calipers. Rear single piston 38mm Varga Caliper, 11.65" vented rotor

Now, I always thought the 93 Cobra R came with basically the components of the M2300K kit..which is a basic 94-98 Cobra disk kit. However that post (which was part of a larger post) claims the Cobra R to have 10.5" Vented disks?

WHat were they? A 5-lug t-bird/93cobra rear setup from the factory??

Youve got me Ive been researching it since you posted this and cant figure it out. I would assume they modified the tbird setup as you suggested....

They're vented around the outside of the diameter so you wouldn't see from the front.

All Cobra R's ready to ship from the factory with the exception of the front wheels which weren't converted yet.

If I remember correctly, the front spindles were swapped out off site at a 3rd party assembly plant.

OK - here are some answers:

The rear beakes were 10.5" single piston units, borrowed from the Lincoln Mark VII.

Final assembly was done by a company called MascoTech. This is where the cars were converted to 5 lug and 13" front brakes were installed.

Interesting. So '93 Cobra R's have Mark 7 rear setups??

I don't think it's the 84-91 setup though. Those are 11.35" vented rotors.

The 92 Mark 7 switched to varga style rear calipers for 1 year only. Perhaps this is what they run? i'll have to do some research now

Ok just confirmed it. Pulled up some part numbers and pictures on NAPA.com and the '92 Mark 7 does use a 10.5" rear rotor and SN95 style Varga calipers...for one year only.

I wonder what the offset was for this setup and why Ford went with this? Perhaps this was the only 8.8 5-lug setup they had back in 1993 so they went with this.

Interesting peice of Mustang history i didn't know about the Cobra R. So how come everything i read calls the M2000K kit the brake system used on the Cobra R? It's technically not

Unfortunately, the book did not specify the year they were pulled from. However from what you are telling me, the 92's may be it. Wasn't '92 the last year for the Mark VII?

reasoning for this, was ford did not have the machinery to compress the front springs at the factory, therefor, they built the fronts as a 4cyl, and shipped them off for completion. was far cheaper for them than retooling.
