the synchros in 2nd and 3rd gear are gone and im thinkin a whole new transmission might be the best thing to do right now... so what are some good replacement trannies? and where should i look to find them? i work at a ford dealer and i was told to get a ford motorsports tranny but i think they just want my money

If you want to blow the cash and get a nice tranny, get a 3550 or better yet, a 3550 TKO.

Or if you're feeling cheap, and you have the equipment (hand tools, place to work, and a hydraulic press), get a rebuild kit from Hanlon (about $150 IIRC) and fix it yourself. It's actually pretty easy, and Hanlon has a video to walk you through it.

I agree w/ Dave. Seeing as you aren't putting a lot of power to the ground, there is no need to get a different transmission. Just re-build your T-5.

If you don't want to tackle that project, do 1 of 2 things. #1 - Yank the transmission yourself, take it to get rebuilt, then put it back in yourself.

#2 - Take the car to a shop, and have them do it.

Just depends on how much money you want to spend.

But, if your ultimate plans for the car exceed 400 rwhp, then you should thing about getting a t-56 or a TKO.

you probably don't need an upgraded transmission. you should just pull it out and send it to me and i can rebuild it for you, for a price.

Mine is still alive, and I'm not at all nice to it. But it whines a little, and I think that if/when I boost the motor, I'll be upgrading the tranny at the same time.
