Roush What Should I Sell My '05 White 20x9 Wheels for?

I'm getting some new rims and want to sell my white 20x9's. There are some blemishes from stuf hitting the wheels while driving, and some paint was removed on 2 of the rims when replacing tires...

Any suggestions??

I thought you loved those wheels? That's tough. I bet you could get maybe $1,500 to $1,600 on ebay.

What are you thinking of replacing them with?

Hi Marcus,

I totally dig those wheels, but they are 20x9 all the way around. I spin the tires way too much and need more contact area. I have put 295-40-20 tires on the rear and that helps, but the tires are now running a little close to the wheel well. If I have all the kids in the car and a full tank of gas, I can get the tires to slightly rub over large dips or railroad tracks. The 20x10's will bring the sidewalls in enough to avoid any contact with the wheel well and help me to get some of the traction I need.

Anyhow, I have ordered the OE Direct 20x10 Saleen 7 Spoke Replicas to replace what I have. I really like the look of my stock wheels and want to retain that look. I can get all 4 wheels powdercoated for $300 here in Albuquerque. So, for $1,300, I'll have brand new wheels in the size I need and finished in a way that is maintainable. I would have bought the Saleen 20x10's but they and everyone else are out of stock and on backorder.

One thing I am bummed about, though, is I paid a significant amount of extra money for the white Saleen wheels and they're painted I would have expected those wheels to be powdercoated for the sake of durbability. Each time I have the tires changed, I end up with marks that are just unavoidable when you're dealing with painted surfaces.

Was it you, Marcus, that was going to get your wheels widened? If so, how much are you paying and who is doing the work. I'd love to stretch the wheels out to 12 inches, but I am unsure how the car/suspension will work with that width of wheel and what type of offset I wold need to keep the wheels tucked.

You can't go wrong with the replica's. Way better chrome and identical in every other way except the are made in China which I believe is a better way to go since they don't have manufacturing restraints like we do here. The factory Saleen wheels are stamped USA on the back.

The widest you can go in the rear of an S197 car without having to mod the LCAs is 11 1/2. That inch and a half is signifigant. I was about to pull the trigger until my guy told me how heavy they would be after his work is complete. The wheel 20x10 is already 40lbs.

I wouldn't give up the original rims for an extra inch with regular street tires.
Traction increase will be minimal.
Wait it out, and there will be drag radials eventually.
Wider tire will just mean the replacements are more expensive.

Strip the white ones and have them powdercoated yourself.

I agree with Joe. Sell your rear 9's and go buy the replica 10's and have them all powdercoated.

Two reasons why Saleen never powdercoated wheels. For one, it's too expensive when painting costs them nothing in house and two, your powdercoater needs to know his shi* to make sure they are nice and white. I have a guy here in Los Angeles and his white powdercoat wheels are nice and white, even whiter than the car. You can match paint easy ( with the body ) but if Saleen had a huge batch of powdercoated wheels doen and they didn't match too well there would be hell to pay. Check back a few threads. there is a colorado fellow that posted pics of his replica 10's and they are a perfect fit and identical.

I decided to get 4 new wheels since they were so cheap. I should have them early this week. I guess I'll just have a set in white and a set in chrome

I should say, though, that I have noticed a significant gain in traction since I changed the rear tires. Unfortunately, I can't compare apples to apples, so to speak. I went back the BFG T/A Radials and dropped the P-Zero's. I'm not sure what is the exact reason for the added grip. I do have a little more contact area now , but that is also with a harder tire Either way, my car bites much better from a dig. Now, I haven't taken the car through the canyons yet a high speed, so their lateral grip is still unknown. Anybody else running anything else other than the P-Zero's?

I'm running a "test" set of Toyo Proxes 4's, 295-30-20 on the rears. Trying out a few different rear end suspension setups. The tires look bad ass but sidewall flex is horrible even at max tire ressure 50psi and the grip is not as good. Zero hook up in second gear with only roll on throttle. I was wondering how the BFGs were. I think those will be the next set for next week.

You can't go too terribly wrong with the BFG's. The last set I had on my '01 S/C got me around 15k miles and I drifted & spun the wheels everywhere I wanted to put the BFG KDW's on my '05 but didn't feel like waiting. I have those on the Cobra and I do like them....they suck if there is anything on the ground, though. I also ran the Nitto's on my '01 and got about 6k miles out of those. I really don't have too much of an opinion of the Nitto's, good or bad, though. The price of the BFG's is pretty good; I got the 295/40/20's for under $300 each from Discount Tire, including warranty.

Here is a pic of the 295-30-20 on the rear on the 10" rear replica. The replicas are identical I promise. You won't be sorry. Do me a favor and post a pic of your rears with the 40 series on there. I'd lean that way but am critical about how it looks (sidewall). As you can see it's pretty close to the Pirelli front now, 275-35-20. There is a hair more negative space between the wheel well and the top of the tire but the footprint with the 295 toyo is signifigant over the 275. I'll post pics (295's) from the rear tomorrow for you.

No question that bfg's provide more traction than the pirellis.
Companies probably use the pirellis because they last wayyyyyyyyyyyy longer than g force bfg's.

I believe the best fit for me will be the 285/40/20's. I may go to 35's, but I don't care for the firm ride of 30's....

What are you looking at in the 285/40/20's? Who makes a tire in that size?

What 35 series are you going to look at? 275/20?

edit: Goodyear makes a run-flat tire in 285/40/20.

Yea, let me go outside and take a couple pics. The 30's don't ride harsh at all. Actually feel like the Pirelli 40's. The only problem is finding a 295-35-20. Let me know when you find one. I would not buy the toyo's again though becuase of the sidewall flex.
