Me and my dad are working on a 1983 Mustang GLX 5.0 5speed we already have a new carb, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil. What else should we get? We are looking at an edelbrock performer intake. What else should we get?

shifter...first thing i would do to a 5-speed

then gears....best bang for the buck you will see other than nitrous

you won't see a performance gain from an intake w/ out heads

so do the heads first..or do them together , but then you'll need a carb too prob, and might as well do the cam

Actually you will see around a 15 hp difference with an intake. I put a Performer RPM intake on my stock head/cam car and I went from a best of 95.89 mph to 98.51 mph in the 1/4 mile....pretty decent if you ask me.

I recommend the same things as the other guys: gears, shifter, etc... I also recommend getting underdrive pulleys (about 10 hp), full exhaust or just a catback (it's a lot more fun driving a car that sounds good). And if you're really serious and have lot's of money, then look into getting different cylinder heads, and an aftermarket camshaft....you'll see huge gains in power with those.

Ahhhhhhh I remember when my 83 was stock lol. Get those log style exhaust manifolds off, and put on a true dual exhaust with just some stock 1 1/2 inch stock 86-93 headers. You'll need a dual hump cross memeber. Then everything for an 86-93 5.0 exhaust wise will fit fine. You'll also get that exhaust restrictor out of there, which is a huge restriction. Yeah, an Intake will be good for the car, also.
