I have a 89 LX with a 4.10 gear. Is this going to be the best gear for this vehicle for overall any type of driving? I have been told that gear is best for drag racing. Now granite I have a synchro thats just about history in 2nd gear and a compression problem in cylinder 3(130) and cylinder 6(140) dry no oil. I am getting blow by thru my exhaust. But I got into a race tonight with a 2005 GT that is all stock with the exception of, BBK air intake, magnaflow exhaust, and a superchip tune. I got stomped by at least 125 ft.
My lx has a 302 bored 30 over, edelbrock plenum&intake,24 lb injectors, 65 cfm mass air,75mm BBK throttle body, stage 3 port & polished heads, 303 cam,flat top forged pistons, BBK full length headers,2 3/4 flowmaster exhaust, world class T5 tranny,BBK carbon fiber clutch, aluminum driveshaft and 4.10 gear
Now like I said I have a tranny issue she grinds quite a bit slamming second and a compression issue due to I supose the rings and a header leaking also but I dont think I should have gotten beat that bad. I noticed he can take 1st gear 3 x's as long as I can. I no sooner take off in first and I have to shift to second in no time at all. My rpms are up like right now not to mention I get no traction if I nail it in first.
So is there anyone out there that can help me here. Before any of my engine and tranny issues I was pushing 325 H.P./375 LBS torque. Should I have been beat that bad with what issues I have or would it not matter if she was even in tip top shape.
