i am going to replace two worn tires this month, and two next month. I was do know what tire i want but i do not know what size will fit in the front and rear. i want the tires to be the same size because i want to be able to rotate the tires with out the need of remounting and balancing due to the tire i want is a directional. i have the 96 17inch gt wheels.

I was considering going with a 255/40-17 or a 265/40-17

i am confident that they will fit on the rim, but will they fit in the front of the car as well as the back?

255/45-17 will be a good size for those wheels

Ok, here's another responce...I don't think they make a 265/40/17 tire. I'm running 17X9 Cobra R's with 275/40/17 and they fit fine. Your 96 gt 17'X8 wheel will have a REAL hard time trying to mount 275's.

255/45 would be a bit taller than stock...

255/40 would be OK on those wheels IMHO...

Don't know how wide you can go without rubbing to be honest, but unless you want the bulging out at the sides look I am not too sure how much wider you can go with the wheels you have...

I had Toyo proxy 265/40-17 on the rear at one point. I was more concerned with the fitting in the front
