went to the track tonite, wondering what the heck i did wrong. i have a 01 gt auto with 4.10 gears, alum. driveshaft, mrt lowering kit, pullies, chip, cold air intake, 70mm tb, ported upper, intake spacer, o/r x pipe, flow master two chambers, and drags on the rear. here is two of my times.
1 2
reaction .544 1.164
60ft 2.406 2.157
1/8 et 9.413 9.179
1/8 mph 78.54 78.39
1/4 et 14.430 14.165
1/4 mph 96.12 98.89
last year with out the gears, drive shaft, drags, and new wheels i ran a 14.2 with a reaction of over 1 second, the only thing i can think of is my shift points on the chip are set way too high. let me know what you think. thanks

the weather, it was in the mid 70, a little humid but no bad. my dads vette did the same as last year and he didnt do a tthing to it. and it seems like the chip is making it shift at 6250 rpm range, which to me seems to high.

You're right, the chip is causing the tranny to shift too late, about 500rpm too late. The 4.6L engine's power falls off around 5500, so any later than 5750rpm is slowing you down.

Don't let the engine's sound fool you into thinking it faster because it's revving faster or higher. Unless you really did something to improve the power of the engine, head work or cams, then your mods will yield only moderate improvements.

A Torque convertor would help at the drag strip, but becomes more hassle on the street. Unless your engine NEEDS a convertor, due to cams and total power output, don't change it.

Is this true? This just might be the best piece of information I have gotten from this place yet! And here I'm thinking I've gotta shift at redline, 6000. Thanks

Well, I was under the impression that the PI headed cars dont really fall out before 6 grand. I thought it was just the older ones that fell on their faces up top. Anyone else?

well if i lower shift points then ill probably be over 6000rpms in thirds gear when i hit the finish, which i guesss isnt so bad if 1st and second shift before 5000 (isnt an autos power range lower then a stick?).
so if i send the chip back to steeda, what should i have the shift points set at? i though they would have set it right when i told them my mods.
