What the hell are these?

I just picked up a new DSS 347 that I bought off someone else, in one of the baggies were these two little pins can anyone identify them. They are not head dowel pins or bellhousing locating pins, and they are ever so slightly cone shaped.

Their too short to be cam pins.

They look like a couple of the rollers out of a pinion or carrier bearing. I would guess that someone put them there just to screw with you and get a good laugh. I have built and assembled dozens and dozens of engines of all makes and none of them take anything like that. No wait I remember now, it is for the flux capacitor that goes next to the muffler bearing and the fluid lubricator!

Go to any repair shop that rebuilds differentials and ask to see a pinion or carrier bearing, take it apart and you will see pins EXACTLY like the ones pictured!!!

They look to me like the clutch alignment pins that are pressed (hammered) into the flywheel.

I don't have one in-hand to measure so I can't be certain. I may have one out in the garage and if you don't have a definitive answer by tomorrow, I'll come back with a yay or nay.

To big in diameter to be clutch alignment pins, those are only 1/8" to 3/16" max. These pins that are tapered are bigger than that.

Honestly I dont remember what else was in the bag with it- nothing significant or I would have remembered.

Speaking of cam pins....anyone have any tricks on how to get one out? I can not for the life of me get the cam pin out, i need to switch it out to a longer pin from my old cam (which came out fairly easily) so I can mount my fuel pump eccentric.

I haven't been able to pull a cam pin without messing it up...

Vice grips have been the only solution in my experience...

grip the cam pin about 3/8" off the cam with a set of vice grips as tight as you can get them. then use a small pry bar between the cam and the vice grips. gently heat the end of the cam with a propane torch if you must and it will come right out.
don't heat the pin. heat the cam ever so little.
