Edit: Sorry guys, I have been inactive for a while and posted the "Gas war" article, not knowing that it already was spread to this site.... Here it is if you havent read it... once again my bad on the repost

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worth your consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE >>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK IF WE WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!.

and a quick side note: Don't flame me if you think its a horrible idea... its not mine, I just wanted to get it out there for people to see if they haven't yet.

terrible...they wont change the price. even if we do end up not buying from these 2 giants, i dont think the price of oil per barrel will come down.

last year they came out with an article saying gas will be $5 by the end of summer. it was a smart idea i guess on their part. it didn't happen, but by doing this they planted it in our heads that once we got to $5 we had to worry. basically, the prices would keep increasing, but we would think "at least it's not $5". prices will increase a lot, then drop and then increase some more and drop. it's ridiculous. they are doing this so we get used to paying a lot more money for gas.:bs:

tru tru....nothing we can do...cept go broke

I know a better idea. Use less gas. Legitmately use less gas. I am down to $20 a week and that's with a 120 mile round trip thrown in every week. His idea tries to make gas "worthless" when you should be trying to make gas "worth less."

i was watching something on the news the other day about the government maybe taking over the gas and oil stuff which i guess would take out most of the the profit margin on the oil thus of course bringing the price down. i don't know if the government taking over would be a good or bad thing, seeing as how i dont know dick about politics. just relaying what i saw on tv.

The government isn't going to do SQUAT to cut the cost of gas down ... certainly not until we get the Bush administration out of office, anyway (and even then, it'll likely never happen). Reason being, there's too much money to be made in letting the big oil companies make a ton of profits by price-gouging the U.S. to death.

This is also a major reason why it's going to take us forever to get around to really researching, developing, and making available any form of alternatively-fueled vehicles (or, better yet, conversions for existing vehicles to run on alternative fuels) - there's just no money in cheap fuel. If someone came out with, say, a conversion kit for gasoline-running cars to switch to hydrogen, and they made it both practical and affordable, y'know what would happen? The government would step in with a sudden campaign about how unsafe hydrogen is, that the technology is "unsound" or "unproven," and do everything they can to keep everyone sucking dino oil and gas ... or the person(s) responsible for such technology would conveniently disappear, along with all of their work. :D

FWIW, these hybrid cars are a joke, a lame attempt to make people think they're doing this big, huge, wonderful thing to save the environment and cut our dependency on foreign oil - or oil, in general. Fact is, they're overpriced, they're expensive to service, and they don't get enough of an increase in mileage over standard gasoline-powered cars to really justify the cost. Ohhhh, whooptie-doo, a Honda hybrid that gets 40 mpg? Big deal ... an '89 Geo Metro with a five-speed and a puny 3-cylinder engine gets 52 MPG without any fancy technology involved ... and you can find several around town used for around $1,000 on average.

Show me a conversion kit to make my Mustang run on hydrogen, french fry grease, corn oil, and/or cow farts, while still laying down decent track times and not requiring an outrageous income to attain/maintain it, and THEN I'll be impressed. Until then, the only thing I'm gonna do about high gas prices is turn my timing back to 10* and run the 87 octane crap gas 'till I can afford premium again.

They tried this stuff last year, and the gas companies made record profits.

Just conserve gas that's all. Don't drive if you don't need to. If we don't drive as much, supply goes up and price comes down.

But we all NEED to drive, so it's tough

Anybody who thinks gas prices are high doesn't know what they are talking about. These companies making record profits are also the ones dumping tons of money into research into oil alternatives. High oil prices doesn't worry me as much as not being prepared when it runs out.
