I am going to get 4.30 gears installed in my 99 gt. I have been trying to read up on it and I am a little unsure of what I need to do after the install. Will I need to get a computer chip installed to correct the shift points with the automatic? I have seen ppl talking about diablo chips and I have also seen the diablo programmers too. I want to get an idea of what I need to do before I buy the gear. Thanks

I vote that you go ahead and buy the SCT programmer and bump your timing and all that good stuff and the same time you correct the speedo for more bang for the buck performance

You will put miles on your car that you didn't drive. PHANTOM MILES!

The automatic will require either a EEC flash or chip in order to correct shift patterns and the speedometer reading. I recommend a dyno tune if you can arrange one. It will give you the best bang for the buck all around. With a chip, it's going to be a "guess and miss" thing when it comes to getting your shift points and everything in order. The SCT programmer unit will allow you to adjust the shift points yourself to the way you want them. However, that unit is rather expensive and I've heard(not speaking from experience either) but I've heard its difficult for some to use. All in all, the dyno tune your best bet and I recommend Superchips Tuning for the tune. Go to www.modulardepot.com and PM a guy there with the user name "SCT Guy". His name is Jerry Wroblewski. He is an ex-Ford engineer who used to work for Ford chip and he now works for SCT. He is the guy to ask questions concerning tuning for the 4r70w automatic. Afterall, he was one of the engineers that designed the transmission for Ford.

When I get my gears, I'm gonna have the car dyno tuned (probably using a diablo chip) at the same time. So it'll be calibrated for the 4.10s, and at the same time I'll pickup a little more power and firm up the shifts with the chip. Even on a nearly stock GT, you should pickup 7-10 rwhp with a good dyno tune.

how much do dyno tunes usually cost?how does it work, does the chip get programmed at the time of the dyno tune or do I get it programmed when I order it?

Oh, it'll be worse than that on an automatic if he's not careful.
