I need some of your guys help here.

I have the CPP front suspension in the car. I love the way it handles, but I do not love the way my steering is. Sloppy and lots of give.

I am trying to find out one or two things and get your feedback on the best options.

First my car is a 289 with power steering. I hear great things about adding rack and pinion to a classic mustang. So.....

First of all can you add a power rack and pinion to a mustang that has the CPP front suspension on it? Like a Randals Rack?

When you add R&P to the mustang do you get to remove all the old power steering components?

If you do should you also be upgrading the steering box at this time or is that gone also?

Would there be any benefit to using the new integrated power steering box from ABS Break? It looks like all the old leaky power steering items are removed and it is all internally controlled in a new steering box. Would this be better than rack and pinion?

Both items (rack and pinion and ABS integrated steering box) cost about $1500.

What would be the best approach for overall handling and power steering control?

well I know that rack and pinion systems replace the steering box and I would guess they require modification to the steering column to adapt it to the new setup. I think you can use your original pump or upgrade to a newer one too.

Also you can use R&P with this setup I'm sure as it takes up the same space as the old setup just hangs a bit lower.

yes you can use any of the power rack systems made for the mustang. any of them would be good except the flaming river POS, stay away from that one. the ABS brake box would be a good option also and IIRC it's a little bit less than most of the racks. given the choice between the two i'd probably go with Randalls rack, everyone that uses it says it's a great system and had i not come across a great deal on a used TCP rack i would have gone with the Randalls kit.

If money is no object, go w/ the rack and pinion. You can't beat the feel of rack and pinion. If you're on a budget, rebuild the original components. Usually this consists of replacing seals. Also one of the major culprits of a leaking system are the aluminum seats in the control valve and ram assemblies. Most folks neglect to replace these. If all the seals/seats are replaced it shouldn't leak for a while.

So if i do the randalls rack and pinion does this mean that i need to take out all of my power steering components? does the steering box stay or go?
