what to do with this quarter panel

Well I bought this car like this and I stripped all the bondo and fiberglass off to bare metal. I had no idea it was this bad whoever tried to repair this did a crap job. So what are my options?
1) new quarter panel
2) cut that part out and put a patch in from another panel
3) Or am I in over my head

I out lined the damage with a black marker and also the small part where the trunk doesn't line up but the rest of the panel is fine.

Im no body man, but I would suggest option B. Cut it out and weld in a new rear quarter.

the only way to "fix" that is to cut it out and install a new quarter........or buy a pallet of bondo and start shoveling it on.

Remove that panel and install another. Not really that hard but if you've never done it. I suggest finding someone with experience to be safe.

No I dont have any pics before I stripped it. Should I replace the whole quarter panel or just cut out the damaged part of the quarter panel? How involved is it or is it just like welding in a patch panel?

Here are some more pics so everyone can get a better idea of what I am dealing with. I know how do some body work but have never replaced a whole quarter panel before but have done small patch panels before. Has anyone on here done this before.

its not bad. use some poster board and make a template and find some common points between both cars to draw out the cut line. and have at it.

Take a look at:

Give them a call or maybe send them a pic of what you have to see if their specific panels will cover the area you're trying to repair. Reskinning may a bit easier than replacing. If you do choose to replace, I'd replace the ENTIRE quarter vs. tring to stich in just a portion. If the repair that you do doesn't maintain integrity, you'll start to see the signs. Most likely in the windshield pillars first.

thanks for the website! The thing is about doing the whole quarter panel, I have read its a pain in the butt to line up the edges and corners. If I cut panels then I can keep the lines that go to the door and part of the wheel well. Just the part I have outlined in black marker is damaged and the small part at the end where the trunk is. I am thinking I can cut the parts out of another quarter and patch them in, what do yall think?

i replaced my entire quarter panel when i got hit a few years back. imo, it's easier than trying to patch in a piece. just gotta drill out the spot welds and stick a new one back on there. easier to line up than trying to just get a patch panel on correctly. it's up to you though.

That link that I gave ya was for rust repair panels... basically it's "reskinning", leaving your original quarter in place. The nice thing about these kinds of panels (usually) is that they're shaped to stay clear of the load bearing, structural portions of the quarter.

If you just cut from and old quarter, you likely won't know until too late (unless you're familiar with whole thing) that you've cut or welded where you shouldn't have.

cut one off of a donor car. i'm on my lunch break right now. i have some pics and whatnot, i'll post them up for you when i get off later today.
