What to Dry With

I've been using chamois for some time now. I hate using them. Yeah, they don't leave streaks or anything .... but the oil in them gets on my nerves. With the way the sun is, I HAVE to use something because it will get spotted immediately. They're also pretty expensive. For just a 1'x1' piece, it's like $15-20.

Just wondering what you guys use.

Micro-Fibre towel....I got a 3 pack for $7 an Canadian Tire.. They are like 12"X12" maby a little bigger

The super absorber, works like a chamois, without the oil, and there machine washable...

I use a MF drying towel or a waffle weave (if you want, Danny or I can provide links to which brands we like - kind of a niche thing).

Keeping the car wet while washing other panels and then removing the hose nozzle and allowing raw water to dump on the surface helps sheet (ergo fewer spots). Or use a waterless wash - I'm curious about the newer Optimum product.

That's exactly what I do. It's just the final drying that I hate (because of the chamois).


The waterless stuff leaves me skeptical ... but I've never seen it used before. You'd think it would leave scratches.



Oh, and brand's you like to use would be great JT! And Danny .... I know he know's his car detailing, lol.



BTW, before someone says it ... I have been to autopia & I don't really like it too much over there.

I also use the super absorber or california car squeegy thing. I know a lot of people don't like the squeegy as they say it scratches, but I've used mine for years on all my vehicles and I have NEVER seen any scratches as a result of it. I also use the Mr. Clean car wash system on my dark cars and it works perfectly if you take your time and make sure to get the car covered from top to bottom.

super absorber here... and my blue five hundres shows EVERYTHING... no scratches and no waterspots. Usually I will re-wet the entire car before drying it. Dries it in a matter of a couple minutes and that is a pretty big car....

lol, what I do is use a leaf blower and quickly go around the car, it moves the bulk of the water off and then i finish with micro fiber towels.

Super absorber here as well. Best 12 bucks I ever spent, doesn't leave any oily crap and holds a heck of alot of water without ever streaking.

I also just remove the hose nozzle and make the water sheet off. Then just finish it off with the towel of MF towel. Never had a water spot from that.

That is brilliant! I'll probably try this next time (with my shop vac set on blow). My neighbors are going to think I'm insane, but **** it.

I use Waffle weave drying towels only (I wash using a rinseless car soap QEW) so I need a towel thats going to ensure very little to no scratches at all (all through my car has scratches I need to try and remove). I use these three

JT the reviews on Optimum have all been positive, they are all saying it leave the surface slicker then QEW. When I run out of QEW I'm going to give Op a go around. BTW QEW is on sale http://www.protectall.com/qe.aspx

Thanks Danny. I read all the reviews and threads - I just need to actually try the Optimum (I have Protect All right now). You can supposedly use the Optimum as different products (QD, etc). I dont use a waterless wash very often. Does it come with a clothes pin to pinch your nose?

I have Ranney's (Pakshak's) MF's and WW's and they're really nice too. It's pretty hard to beat Patrick's prices though IMHO.

And for washing normal cars, I have a drying towel from Wally mart that works fairly decent.

I also have used the silicone blade products (on glass and DD's) - As long as the blade is debris-free it does ok. I use a sealant on the paint and it loses it's slickness, which can make the blade drag.

How do you like the Excel Monterey Waffle Weave Drying Towel (is that the one you have?) I have/use Pats sheepskin wash mitt (med) I want to order the heavy sheepskin mitt and wanted to try his WW.

I don't believe that he sells the ones that I have anymore (that's going back a few years). The new stuff looks pretty good to me and the big ones are a little bigger than mine.
