What transmission is in my car.

I just bought a used 01 GT 5spd last week. I don't like how sloppy the stock shifter is so i was wanting to get a new one. I looked around and apparently half way through 01 they switched to the 3650's. How do I tell if this or the other transmission is in my car. Then I can order the right one. Thanks to anyone for your help.

if your drain plug is facing directly downwards it's 3650. If it's at a angle it's a T-45. There is also a way to tell by looking at your vin# but don't how to tell...

well my bullitt has the 3650 and it has tremec written on it plus the drain plug is on the bottom of the trans instead of the side like the t45

On the VCL (Vehicle Certification Label) on the driver's doorpost, the "TR" will either have a "K" for the Tremec TR-3650 or a "6" for the T45. Check out this site for full VIN/VCL decoding for late model Mustangs - http://web.tampabay.rr.com/theflock/mustang/doorplate.html
