Have an 08. Inside arm rest is connector for IPOD and also one other on a cable with end about 1' wide. Anybody know what that connects to? Tx.

You must have bought the "NEWER" 2008 hybrid and that is where you plug in an external power jack to charge your Dilithium Crystals...

or it could be a USB plug?

I just bought the car, it's brand new. It's not anything plugged into the 12v outlet, that's empty. Anyone? Guess I'll dig into owners manual this weekend and see if I can find out what it is supposed to connect to. Just thought someone might know as there's lots of 08s out there.

Maybe someone installed the TripTunes for Ipods??

Mustang Trip Tunes IPOD

Because looking at Ford - Cars, SUVs, Trucks & Crossovers | Ford Vehicles I don't see anything new even for 2009.

If it is the Advanced Triptunes, it should have an ipod connector on the end. If you know what that looks like, it's pretty easy to recognize.

Yes, I do have the trip tunes option. (As I found this car as a leftover 08, it already had the trip tunes option.) Guess that is what it is. We have an ipod but it just takes a USB connection to our computer. This is definately not a usb connection, its wider. Maybe tomorrow I'll try and get a picture up here of the connector.

The ipod connector I am talking about is not a usb. I am talking about the plug that goes into the bottom of the ipod.
I have an aftermarket tuner that allows me to input my ipod directly into the stereo and control it from the headunit.
The cable from that is wide, about an inch or so, and plugs into the bottom of the ipod.
My ipod plugs into my computer with a wide plug on the bottom to a usb on the computer.
It sounds like a standard ipod connection to me.

I guess that's what it is - ipod. Where do I get the the connector? Is this standard Apple stuff or Ford stuff? Tx.

I thought the cable was already there? NOt sure what cable you are referring to? Typically it just connects to the bottom of an IPOD. here is a picture from the Apple website:

Ok, think I found why it didn't make sense to me. The wife has the little ipod shuffle and it doesn't have the wide "normal" docking recepticle at the bottom, it only has the 3.5 audio jack. From looking at the Apple web site, the larger ipods have the docking plug recepticle in the bottom and the cable in the car would plug directly into. Thanks all for the help.

I didn't realize you had already created a thread asking about this, or else I wouldn't have made one too. I think I found the answer to both our problems:

Amazon.com: Kensington LiquidAUX Auxiliary Car Kit with Remote for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G: Electronics
