What type of bell housing for t-5 conversion?

I was looking in my parts mag recently and saw that there are two different types of conversion kits available and both at a different price. One was for using a late model bell housing and the other for and early style. The difference in the price of the kits was about $100 dollars, the one using the late model being less expensive. Which housing is better to use in the conversion?

Well, I like using the late year because it doesn't require the adapter plate. The real point of it depends on what clutch system you will use. If you plan on using a cable clutch, then get the late year. It has the required threaded hole for the pivot ball. If you are going to keep the clutch linkage, then get the early model.

Since I have an AT at the moment I would definitely go towards using a cable clutch setup. I guess that answers my question. Thanks for the response.

The mounting holes/bolts of the late-model tranny are not the same as the early-model ones. So in order to line up the late-model tranny with the early-model bellhousing you need the adapter.

The holes/bolts where the bellhousing mounts to the engine block are compatible, so either early or late bellhousings will fit.


Then there's the already described clutch setup differences...get the late housing

If your going to use the late model bell housing (good choice) then you can get a clutch cable from here.
