when im at the junkyard what vehicle should i look for to get a 460 from? searched and what ive read it seems that the later 460 were weaker right?? looking to put one in a 89lx. thanks

dont take this as gospel, but your best bet might be a wrecked RV/Mobile Home or perhaps an old super duty pick-up/dump truck/etc. I know the last time I was at the yard, all I saw were 5.0's and 351's in the older pickups. Sadly, a lot of the 460 cars have been scrapped already...you might get lucky and find an old Lincoln (70s vintage) or perhaps a marine motor somewhere for a reasonable price.

By the time you are done with machine work (unless you work at one or have a hook up) you might be better off buying yourself a short block or building a 351 stroker.
Good luck!

I agree, a truck motor would be my choice, I have one from a 77 linc. 100k+ miles all internals std. size. in an 84 turbo bird, and a 429 fron 1972 something. both dangerously strong but the 460 is best.

mid/late-70's Lincoln, Mercury Grand Marquis or LTD should all fit the bill. Otherwise, an 3/4 tonn or 1 tonn truck should fit the bill. In any case....weaker or not, any one of them will hold more power than you'll likely ever push through them.
