Well we came to the conclusion that my coolant leak is coming from the water pump. Its coming from underneath and its dripping straight down so my brother explained to me that there is a little hole in water pumps and when they go bad the hole will leak fluid. Is this true for all water pumps? Im going to NAPA tomorrow to get a new water pump and was wondering if I should save some money by getting a remanufactured pump or spend a little extra and get a new one. Also should I get one with a cast iron pump or an aluminum? Id like to get a less expensive one since I currently cannot get the employee discount from NAPA because Im not working until my fball season is over. Thanks.

Yes, it's called a weep hole. Honestly, I'd just buy a plain 'ol replacement waterpump; it shouldn't be over $25. Be careful, the factory aluminum waterpump for the HiPOs and the early 289s goes with a rare, expensive timing cover and won't fit without the matching timing cover, so don't buy one of those pumps.

Hey wait, I had a '65 289 with a(hard to find) "parts store" aluminum water pump and it didnt need a different timing cover. It originally had an iron pump.

Just go to Napa like you plan, but take the old pump with you to match it. A new pump shouldnt be more than $5-10 more than a rebuilt, so I personally would opt for a new one. A ReMan will be just fine, though. More power to you if you can get it in aluminum.

I think at autozone they will give you some money for your old one (because they use them to be rebuilt) Might be the same with Napa? It's not a whole lot, something from like 4-6 dollars maybe, but every little bit helps.

Ya NAPA does the core charge thing. Its only if you bought one originally from them and are bringing that same one back for a new one. Thanks
