What wears out a clutch

So with the car off put the car into gear, pull the clutch to the top and then push it all the way back down?

Or with the car on?

Yes, engine off, in first gear, 'gently' pull clutch up until it stops, then push it down. You will hear a click when it adjusts.

if I am sitting at a redlight, is it OK to keep my feet on the clutch + on the brake while waiting for green. Or is that bad?
I think I read something about a throwout bearing or something?

Put it in 4th gear, rev the engine up to about 5,000rpms and pop the clutch then get back on the brake and you can do a clutch burnout.

Yeah, it'll cause the throwout bearing (TOB) to go out. Just put it in neutral. You'll get used to it. It didn't take me long at all to get used to putting it in neutral and taking my foot off the clutch.
